cool vid mate. my favourite jet ever an i wish i was able to work on them when i was in the RAF. pity none of em fly anymore but i there is one being restored to airworthy condition

  • Author

ive been in that very jet, its literally 1 mile away from my house, when the trees have shed it's leaves i can see it from my house

i see 1 neally every day too, they have a Vulcan at Southend Airport, right next to the Railway. No Licence to fly but it does runs up the runway, awesome noise

I used to see one fly every year at RAF Cosford Air Show, they are incredibly loud, always enjoyed hearing it coming way before I saw it.

Got really close to one of these in the 70s when I was a kid. I was slightly deaf afterwards! Probably one of the loudest jets I've ever heard. Cool vid.

Reminds me of the Z....... smokes like a Tw@t and Crap brakes

there is one being restored. its just had its rebuild engines installed and if flight tests go well which i think are next month then it should be back in the air later this year. its going to be used in the falklands memorial flight.

ahh. we have one of them at southend airport.

just sits tehre, begging for money.

then once a year it fired up its bloody engines adn roars down teh runway. its not allowed to fly though.

whats the point ffs

I heard they wont give them licence to fly cos we dont have anything at the mo that can go as high or as fast so if one went roge there would be nothing anyone could do about it?

Could be total ballswarks though???

same reason some people have a vintage or classic car. to allow people who weren't old enough to experience them first hand when they were in front line use experience them. its just the regulations for allowing it to fly are a lot tighter and it costs a large fortune to keep them running.

this is the one that is nearly airworthy (clicky)

I was asked about 3/4 years ago if I would like to work on the refurb project for the engines, unfortunately I wasn't able to due to other commitments within the factory.

Info Here

I remember three of them taking of in quick succesion as we stopped to have a picnic near an air base in Lincolnshire on the way down to my brothers. They were bloody loud. I also remember them and the Gloster Venums doing air displays at Finingley Air shows (that really gives my age away.

There are I believe 5 that are intacked and fired up every so often and the one being made ready for the Faulklands flight is different. There's one at BEA systems at Woodford near Manchester. Me and my kids have been in that one and that fires the engines up as well. They are a beautiful looking thing.

The last and only 1 i can remember seeing flying was a very long time ago at the Southend airshow it was all white with a black nose cone and made a weird high pitch whine as it flew over

Sounds like the one at Woodford. I think that was still flying till about 12 years ago

I used to go to Finingley and Church Fenton air shows as a kid :)

Jeeez I can't be far behind you! LOL

I can remember being at school in Leeds and the Vulcans used to fly over about 4pm most days.

hi all there was a vulcan flying up to 3 or 4 years back i think it had just had a repaint i subscribed to a memorial club to keep it flying as it was the last one that was airworthy they could not get goverment funding to keep it in the air so it was grounded i dont know where it was kept but another piece of history gone it did cost thousands to keep it in the air for 10 minutes
