i keep getting a code 13 coolent temp sensor.

from searches it seems that the course of treatment is give it a clean up and if that doesnt work replace the sensor/connector. tried the clean up and didnt work.

My question is what actually do you replace.....the connector plug or the actual sensor that screws into the top pipe or both.

If it is the connector only how do you splice the wiring of the new one where the old one is?

If it the sensor is it easy to remove it without snapping, shearing or threading anything? I imagine it would be held tightly to stop leaks + the odd bit of corrosion + soft ally.

What are the prices and where do you get them?

Also, while i am doing this i might try to splice the single sensor between the standard signal to the ECU and provide a signal to my aftermarket gauge as i have been talking about in this thread.

Does anyone have anymore views about how to run 2 instruments off one sensor?

its good practise to change both, but if you cant get rid of the code then more likely the sensor itself. If youve taken the plug of with the battery still connected then you'll get the auxy fan running all the time when you start up. if so have you tried resetting the ecu???? if so then you'll have to change the unit, they dont cost much to replace about 12 quid I think.

the temp sensor is 21 quid from MJP in the traders section. easy to remove with a deep socket but it will be tight. cleaning the connectors might help.
