I'm sure someone said XP was a problem with the usb cables.

I have a usb Datascan running on an old W98 lappy no probs.

Yep! Windows XP, old lappies with USB 1 and Datascan USB cables doesnt seem to work. If you get hold of the serial cable you'll be laughing.

Isn't that to convert a serial device to plug in to a usb port though?

I dunno Brian. Thats a male serial plug.

You aint gonna plug that in to a lappy.

when you install this driver when you plug the cable into the usb port look in control panel , system, hardware, device manager and if its workeds you should see a part for com and lpt port and the cable should default to com port 4 and make sure in datascan in connections these com ports match

:headvswal :headvswal no ,looks like ime going to have to get another older l/t just for the car running windows 98 or get an external h/d for my exsisting which has xp (dont want to lose the plug n play facility of xp either)

You can have both 98 and XP on the same HD if you wish.

Simply install Win98 and then install XP without formating the drive. Now when you boot you will see a menu which offers you both operating systems.

The interface I showed you allows you to connect an old serial device to a USB port. Not sure if this is the way round you are trying to connect or not.
