What are the codes? No point wiping the codes if there are faults there as they'll just come straight back. It'll be the X20XEV engine.

To reset the ECU, just disconnect the battery for about 30 mins.

Tec2 you only need for airbag reset really and fuel map updates etc.

Agreed with the above. That has to do more with the timing being out I think. If the crank sensor is out of range of the cam sensor, it'll throw up an error as the ECU can not compensate.

isnt it closer to 2 hours to reset the codes or i think 30 "clean" starts will reset any stored codes

30mins I think, although I've heard that figure is a bit of an old wive's tale. Apparently, it's within a few seconds. The fuel map gets reset to default and the codes are removed from the memory.

Unhook the battery for an hour though just incase.

I have a 1.8 ectotech 16V and I did what Si said left the battery off over night. (dont need that long) and it took about 10 minutes ticking over on the drive and it was fine.

i tested the cam sensor for resistance and it was faulty but i have bought a new one and the trouble code is still there and i cant rev above 4.5k revs

As Said above, check the cambelt tension, common problem and will put up a cam sensor fault code.

cambelt tension seems fine. someone in the past has cut up the harness that goes on the sensor, the old one had rounded edges and the new sensor is sqaure

Is the timing ok though? Take off the cam belt covers, hand crank the engine round to TDC and see if all the markings line up.

yes it is i have just replaced the cam belt and cam sensor to solve this problem. i have been doing a search on the vauxhall site and it looks like the harness can be replaced so i think i will get one

I do have Vauxhall's EPC somewhere. So I could tell you....but quite a few of the top posters on MIG should have copies too.
