jaffaZ32
Right where to start??? First off i'm a complete novice. a while back i bought a Schumacher Menace 21, Brilliant lil buggy. Easy to start, reliable, very fast but.... bit feeble anyway i blow the engine up on that one. So... i was then after something stronger, bigger and better. So i bought a Hpi Savage, well after having the Menace the savage was slow! but hey i thought it strong and well built, when using it one day it got stuck in grass and i soon come to realise it was too gutless no torgue really slow just strong so i then bought the Hot Bodies big twin kit which is 2x .26 tuned engine, pipes, bigger wheels, bigger chassis, bigger twin fuel tank + other misc items. Anyway it was rubbish!! never started! when it did start died off quickly, far too heavy! Anyway gave it to Snetterton model shop to fine tune/run in got it back and still crap. So that just sat and collected dust. I then went on to fit the original engine from my savage (s-25) in my Menace, the engine is completly different so i had to bodge it in and it was a real mess but now i can't get that engine running. Keeping in mind i'm a novice i don't know how to set the engines up etc. etc. but i set back to factory settings checked to obvious and still no life. But...... There is a new one out which is the best of both worlds. The Hpi Savage X 4.6 apparently 60mph according to Hpi. I would like to buy it in the SS kit form so i can build it and see how it all works. Has anyone got a Savage X? would they recomend it for a novice? e.g. easy starter etc. and are they really that fast?
mario
stop arsing about with toys :D . get a proper one like this. you will struggle to blow one of these up. lol. engines in 10th scale dont seem to last long. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FG-Marder-radio-control-buggy-Petrol-Ready-to-go-1-5_W0QQitemZ190126158490QQihZ009QQcategoryZ19168QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

scrawni
My Savage is too fast and torquey you must have it set up too rich or something, they are a bitch to set up.

Are they strong?
jaffaZ32
Have you checked the glow plug on the non starter? I have tried several glow plugs, and ignitors. new fuel lines, checked the tank for leaks, checked the engine for leaks, and also the exhaust. However it is a Hpi S-25 engine with a Menace exhaust manifold and pipe which i bodged on, i had to make a new gasket with gel glue and elastic bands, sounds tacky i know but i has sealed. The spring is mega tight to help with the seal. All the needles are back to factory settings.

Are they strong? they are VERY quick and strong. i have just sold an 1/8th scale buggy with upgraded engine, 2 speed gearbox, upgraded suspension, ect. been stuck in the shed for nearly 2 years. jaffaZ32
My Savage is too fast and torquey you must have it set up too rich or something, they are a bitch to set up. It was quick but not Menace quick and i used it in long grass, sand, deep mud and it kept getting stuck. Have you seen the Hpi Baja 5b's. wow....! I don't really know much about RC cars, that's my problem. I only know of a few brands so i stick to the big names as i don't really know what i'm buying. I do like the idea of buggies and trucks as i think you can have more fun with them. I found my old Tamiya boomerang the other day, i even considered putting a new electric motor in that to make it upto todays standered as it seemed cheap but then by the time i had bought new batteries for it i thought i might aswell get a new one lol. They do look cool, do they get good traction being 2wd? Bit expensive really, i could wait a lil while rather than just buying another troublesome nitro. Are they easy to tune/start? Bit expensive really, i could wait a lil while rather than just buying another troublesome nitro. Are they easy to tune/start? most are 4x4 drive, easy to start with very little tuning. they use roughly the same size engines as whats on hedge trimmers/strimmers. they are bigger than what you think as well. you cant tell from pictures unless its at the side of a 10th scale, which they dwarf. mario
this may give you a rough idea using the table for size.

Guest andyduff
Is the fuel fresh? Nitro fuel goes off rapidly - also check the carb and needle valve isn't bogged up with old fuel...
piesoup
Yeah, the fuel absorbs water if left for too long. Also, check you are using the correct glow plug, they have different temp ranges. Have you been onto the HPI site? They have great vids to help with seting up etc. I have an HPI MT2. Used in in Bosnia in the winter, with that cold dense air, I got 59mph out of it! Then I totalled it as the brakes arent that good! :headvswal Got another one now though. :D

I cleaned the carb, nope the fuel is rather old so i better get some other stuff to try, thanks. Although it did start my Hot Bodies engine ok. Must be due to carb or port/combustion chamber design I guess

jaffaZ32
Mario i bought a FG Marder It's a 26cc but guess what??? i can't get the bugger started. Brand new. i'm using 30mm of oil to 1 litre of unleaded. i got it started first time then it wouldn't start again. Removed the plug pulled the pull start with the buggy upside down, drew on the plug with a led pencil put it back in and no go. I don't have any luck with Rc cars.
