You might get intermitant sparks or missing on 1 or more cylinders.

Have you tried swapping the coil packs?

What's the problem exactly?

Hi there, thanks for your reply,my 300 tt,was very lumpy on tick over, and then on a couple of time it was like it was running out of petrol, the first after trying for some time it did start, but this time nothing,l checked the plugs and there is no power to the first coil on the left hand side,l had tried another coil, but there nothing coming through, this is why it was running lumpy, with the starting problem,a few members think its the ptu,but would l get a spark if this was not working, thanks again, regards mick

The PTU drives the coils so if this is faulty you would loose spark on one or more cylinders. The series 1 units were prone to failure particulary when hot.

Hi chris,l have listed the problems with my 300 on my page, its was running lumpy,l found that one of the coils is not getting any power,l have tried another but no power coming through, the starting problem is ,its like its running out of petrol, and it stops, the first time l did get it going, this time no luck,l been told it could be the ptu,but as l getting a spark at 5 of the coils would it be the ptu, thanks again, mick

Does sound like the PTU has failed.

If you've swapped one of the coils and there's still no spark on that cylinder then it's got to be the PTU.

There might be someone on here who's local who can let you try their unit or you can probably get a used one in the for sale section on here.

You might have to pay your £20 and subscribe to do that though.

Don't buy one from Nissan UK though they want crazy money and give you the old part not the Series 2 type which never fails.

PTU doesn't supply the permanent feed though, only the trigger

So could be a bad wiring connection on that coil or dodgy harness but the PTU is probably more likely as everyone I know has had the PTU go pop!
