Just done the old "drop the gearbox sump... clean the magnet thingy" on my UK TT. I had the drain plug on my sump ....which was handy ............ still got loads of oil down my sleeve into my arm pit and on my drive when I released the sump though  It wasn't the nicest of colours.........so I think it probably needed doing. Heres my question....... I had done a seach on the forum about the job before I started it and expected to drain off 2-3 litres of old oil.........I got 4L out of mine is that normal or was it over filled previously????

Thanks Mantav8...................But how much should drain out when you drop the gearbox sump??????

from memory you drain whatever comes out. also from memory you re-fill it for a while - remaining old oil mixes with new oil, then after a while you drain it again and re-fill again. thats why you get supplied more oil (from MJP) than you think you need...

Good luck

You didn't state whether it's auto or manual, I'm guessing auto as you seem unsure of whether you would have a sump plug or not. The capacity of the auto box is pretty large, but there will be some in the oil cooler and even more trapped in the torque convertor.

Anyway, the actual capacities are in the online manual.

It may also be worth doing the diff if you're playing with oily bits under the car.

LMAO.... Andy i think the thread title might give that away..
