Massive
just wondered if anyone has had a run in with british gas came home yesterday after a BAD day weather wise job wise money wise etc only to find that there was a sticker on my porch door saying british gas had gained entry into my property ( home owner not rented ) and fitted an electric meter, they had changed the lock on the porch door and taken the keys with them and there was a number to ring to get a set of keys sent out to us. they had also gained entry into the house itself but the inner door to our house hadnt had its lock changed they had used a locksmith , on the bottom step of my stairs in the house was a letter and a plastic key thing the letter said that due to non payment of the leccy bill they had obtained a warrant from the justice of the peace and broke in ,,now i have 2 japanese akita dogs and a german shepard i found all my dogs locked in the conservatory and due to the stress they must have been under they had trashed the place and badly damaged the french doors that lead into the consevatory imyself or my partner have never recieved a letter from british gas or a threat of them breaking into my house i have never seen a warrant which i thought you had to be shown something before access is gained im shaking typing this as im so angry as we have just had the locksmith guys on the phone saying our new keys to my porch are in HULL and we wont recieve them till tommorrow so that would have been 2 days without me being able to get in my house it was only by good luck i had the electric blipper for my garage door and was able to get through the garage into the back garden and get into my house as there is only access this way or through the front door god knows what would have happened if i hadnt id have been homeless and the poor mutts would have been hungry,,,,,,,,,,, needless to say the missus has been in touch with the citizens advise and they have put us in touch with a solicitor but according to them if british gas has followed their protocol we havent a leg to stand on.............and the bill for all this £435.68 not inc v.a.t it beggers belief..............anyone had a similar situation as im on the verge of going to the head quarters of british gas and causing a scene

Lamp Shader
fook me thats pathetic. good thing for them your dogs must be tame or it would be a case of getting sued for having a dangerous dog in the house. have you thought about going to the watchdog, also try to get on something like rogue traders type program and see if you can get some compo
Elmo
Never had any dealings with them but that is totally out of order !!!
EvoluZion3
  that is UN-F****NG-believable mate. the number of times those jokers have been on watchdog trying to charge people who dont even use f****ing gas! id sue them for every penny they have. they 'claim' to have a warrant surely you can demand to see it. :mac1:
speedemon
I work for an energy supplier not bgas but I work in the debt management side so I am one of the people that put accounts forward for prepayment mtrs or disconnection. We first send out loads of letters then we phone them and explain the situation giving the cust options of paying, then we can apply for a warrant to access the property and fit a meter loading total debt plus warrant/ locksmith fees and fitting to the meter. The debt will be set to collect at a fixed rate per week, but this is a process that takes time as it checked out properly by different management before we apply for a court warrant. But as said above if bgas followed this procedure then you have not got a leg to stand on I am afraid :( HTH. P.s Energy watch will be the people to go to if Bgas violated these conditions. Glenn
Yep I've had loads of shite with British Gas. I swapped from Swalec to them early last year because they said I was playing far to much on my gas and they could save me money. Well guess what got my first bill and it was TWICE as fooking much, yes TWICE as fooking much  the lying, scanking tw@ts! I switched back to Swalec and they continued sending me bills for 10 months which increased every month even though I had changed suppliers and rang and sent letters. The last thing I heard was about 2 months ago saying they would call with the police present :headvswal

Guest deve8uk
15 years ago they broke into my house after demanding this that and the otehr and sent me loads of letters. I wasnt in my house and the Gas was disconected, supprise supprise as I was in teh jungle in south america for queen and country. When I got back I had to break in to my own house. Get this, They broke in to disconect someone who was disconected. The conversation with my lawyer was along the lines of. Can you prove you where disconected, yes I have the letter and teh paperwork. can you prove when you where in south america, yes I have a written letter from my CO. Can you prove when you got back, yes again CO. Did you experiance active duty, yes. Ill ask for their balls, if they argue Ill ask for their balls their first born and the soals of their childrens children. It went to court, I stood there in my #2's with my medals on my chest with my CO, CSM and OC and all thier paperwork along with teh MO's letter to the court about how the stress had added to teh onset of post trauma syndrome. I got £7K plus all expences paid.
CarlZ
That is outrageous, what gives anyone the right to break in to someones home, the laws gone mad. An Englishmans home is no longer his castle. Thats what privatisation as done for us, given these firms the right to bully and ruin peoples lives in the name of profit for the share holders, my blood boils for you bud, i am so anti corporate buisness :xxx:'s
Guest Saz
when i bought the house, i swapped from BG to powergen, BG sent me letters telling me to ring up and give my name and meter readings, i tried 3 times, on hold for 40 mins, this is not a free phone number!! so i tried email, they would have received it in 3 seconds, i got an automated reply saying they would be in touch within 7 days ffs, its email!! its instantanious. Suffice to say i never got a reply. They have since sent me a bill for almost 200 quid for a months supply based on made up readings from the last occupiers and addressed to the occupier, now my name isnt "the occupier" and as im aware if the bill is not made out to the correct addressee, or the name is not spelt correctly, then they can not pursue it??? British Gas are a disgraceful company i hear everyday of their door to door men lying and putting fear into the elderly and infirm, to get them to switch, disgusting stories in all honesty. Their customer service is disgraceful and personally id sooner go without electric than line their pockets
Uno
as above they would have needed a court order to do this you dont need to be there when they attend..there would /should have been loads of letters in the run up to this from the company and from the court warning and informing you in equal measure...disconnection by court ordered entry is something they do very rarely i've helped thousands of people in debt and not had one go to this stage.....if you didnt get any paperwork or notice from the court then its a shock no doubt and you should apply to the local magistrates court for a hearing to get the order set aside and the meter put back in the meantime pay or offer to pay any outstanding gas/elec bill you have with them less the penalties for their actions as a matter of course
