Smelly!! :wack:

not uded it myself, but have had vehicles in that use it - one smelt like a dirty old burger van

it's no cheaper by the time you pay the road duty, does no damage to the engine, just smells like a chip shop from behind lol

No - but the kit from the government is only £200 - I have been seriously considering it.

I spoke to my local chippy and it costs them a fortune to dispose of oil properly. he would happily supply if for free.

The only problem is you have to tell the government just how much you are producing so they can tax you at 60p/ltr or whatever it is!

Do the mercs need a lot of modification to run on it paul?

And when you say they smell do you mean only from the exhaust?

iv not really looked into it TBH mate, but wouldnt have thought so, Diesels will run on just about anything LOL! would make sure the fuel filter was changed more frequently to get all the old brown bits of chips & batter out tho!!!

seriously, would think its more about getting the oil clean & free from moisture that would be the problem if you get it direct from a chippy :wack:

My sisters boyfriend used to have a Pajero with a veg oil tank in it. It was seperate from the regular diesel tank because running on 100% veg oil you need a heater to thin the oil down somewhat.

You can add veg oil at a max of 50/50 with diesel in the regular tank IIRC and it will still run ok.

HTH

Rob.

I ran my Pug 106 on half diesel and veg oil for a little while as a test and it did work out a bit cheaper. Unfortunately it was a pig to start on cold mornings due to the thickness of the veg oil and then it fooked up the diesel pump which then cost £300 to repair!

Does anyone know of a bio fuels forum?

Will you be respraying the Z green and fitting an electric motor too? LOL

probally due to the viscosity of the cold veg oil; thats why you need the heater

I know that now! but with most things in life I have to learn the hard way :(

Oops, yes, I should have said max of 50/50 in summer, 75% diesel 25% veg oil in winter. Even thinner if you have trouble starting it.

Mark/Topless.... are you wanting to run on 100% veg oil? or mix it in the fuel tank?

I run my Mondeo diesel with 10% of veggy oil from Asda, sometimes 20%, no problems and no smell. (just a lot cheaper than diesel).

Ive got a bio fuels website address somewhere will post if when i find it, bio diesel is 74p a litre at our local dealer ive just bought a ford maverick 2.7 td so will be giving it ago

Mark

so let me get this straight even though your not buying diesel, a taxable item and your running your vehicle on vegetable oil, they still tax you??!!

thats fookin disgusting, that is.

one of the dads at the club runs his cars on it. I say cars as hes blown 7 up that I am aware of.

smells like a fish and chip shop as well.

Cool, so does anyone know if there are any cars that will run on veggie without modifications?

Most old diesels, German ones are especially tolerant. French diesels to a certain extent, best avoid Lucas fuel pumps though - Bosch is best. Any non-HDi diesel will run on up to 50% veg, need to be very careful with the modern high pressure systems though.

kerosene is the way forward... there is a guy at work who runs a diesel that hasnt filled up for years courtesy of airline and air cargo operators :x:

its best to mix kerosene with 1/2 and 1/2 of normal diesel i found me old van run a bit ruff and sluggish on kerosene alone

Taking a risk with kero though, its a dryer fuel than diesel and doesnt give the same lubrication properties as diesel so theres a danger of causing damage to the injection pump.

I heard the older Merc 250d are good on veg oil :)
