A plan i believe are a broker/intermediary, Whose your actual insurance company? Usually if you put in a request before you send the log book to them this can be done. Havnt heard of an insurance company that wont let you unless it was somthing like a cat a or cat b write off i believe

if you want to buy it back, you can also request for it not to be put on the register as a cat c or d. i know a few thats done it.

It basically goes like this,if you claim on the insurance they WILL write it off!

You then automatically get a category(I reckon a Cat c for yours)-you might be able to buy the salvage,as that's what it is now,but you will never lose the Cat C!! :(

IMHO,you were the only party involved so why claim?-use the help/offers on here, save your NCB and best of all no Cat C 'label'! :D

All my opinion of course! :wack:

hes got a point, why dont you try and get an estimate from a garage so you know which parts need replacing if you dont already and the use this site as loads of cars are always being broken?

i'm with Ensign insurance through A-Plan...

My only concern is that I have basically bent and messed up 2 roadside barriers that belong to the council, and I dont want a bill for those! If i got the car out before the feds drove past, I would have not gone through the insurance company and let the council deal with the barriers on their own.

If I didnt go though insurance, and a bill from the council came home, I would have to pay for it, right?

yeah, i think you would!

And since the plod have taken a statement, they're more than likely to inform the council!

But i suppose it all comes down to what you plan on doing with the car, in the long term!

I mean, if you were planning on keeping her until she (eventually) dies, and you could live with having it classed as a class c write off, i'd go through the insurance. But if you plan on selling her on......most people would be put off buying an insurance write-off!

All in my own opinion, of course!

totally, most people wouldnt buy a cat-c high performance car.... i was planning to keep the car for a couple more years, i guess i need to wait for estimates etc etc

Oh you will definitely get a bill for that.

The police will file their report to the council, who will then get an estimate for the damage from their maintenance company who will then recover the cost from you. It will be a sustantial bill to. Well over £1000 Im sure. And dont be surprised if it takes months to get to you.

Im talking from experience here. So make sure your insurance company knows all about it before the bill arrives.

hi if you are prepaired to repair your car yourself you might get away with going down the third party claim only route.tell your insurance co. there might be a claim to damaged property from the councel your not claming for superficial damage to your car as you can repaire it yourself. i have seen this done before the insurance co was happy as much as they can be good luck.

Even if you had not called the police, they would have caught you on CCTV for smashing the barriers mate.

Basically, you have already told your insurance company of the accident but you still have the choice whether you actually claim for the damage to your car. So you could in theory get all the parts you need from here and foot the repair bill for the car yourself.

Then when you get the bill from the council for the barriers you then send it to your insurance company and they just pay out a third party claim to the council. Of course your NCB is affected but the car will never be recorded as Cat C damaged. Simple!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
