Clarkey
Is it an auto? If so does it make a difference if you run the selector through the gears and back a couple of times? If thats the case then the inhibitor switch could be on its way out.
Munny975
Nah its a manual!!!Inhibitor Switch??? Anything else it could be??
EvoluZion3
problem with the immobiliser? when you say the key wont go past ON, do you mean mechanically wont let you, or lets you but doesnt fire up?
Clarkey
they key physically wont turn any more past 'on'? I've never heard of that before it may just be a broken ignition barrel.
Munny975
Physically wont let me go past on!Thought it may have bn the immobilser as if i took the key out locked n unlocked the car it would always start up 1st time so i thought it may have been some sort of Safety feature having a hissy fit but id say about 90% of the time i could just hop in n start it up! When it does let me she starts everytime no problems!!!
Z32KING
I had this problem after cutting a new key, have you tried wiggling the key or have you got another spare you can try with?
Munny975
Tried the wiggle nothing still happening and dont have a spare set of Keys as the dude a few owners back lost them and nore more been made. So you think its the Igintion Barrel then???? Any ideas on where i can pick 1 up and the stages after that???? Or could it be anything else you can think of?? Well it's either the key or the ignition barrel, if I were you I'd start with having a new key cut as it might be worn out, who knows, or just fetch a second hand ignition barrel from a scrappy for around £10-20. NicksbananaZ
i would take the sorround off behind the steering wheel and have a look at the ignition barrel. i had a problem where i could'nt take the key out, i found a little red switch just to the left of the barrel that came down and locked the key in place(some sort of anti theft device i think,i dont know) any way all i done was put a bit of wood in to jam it open and put some tape over it. it may be that switch hope this helps Nick
CarlZ
i take it the steering lock is coming off?
DaveMac
You say you first thought it was the immobiliser. When you turn the key all the way and nothing happens, does it spring back like it should or will it not get that far? I'm off to the Nationals in Huntingdon tomorrow and I've got a known-good ignition barrel/key it you live anywhere between N.Wales and Huntingdon lol! Well i live in Bedford which according to Google Maps is only 26miles southwest from HUntingdon! SO pick up would defo be possible! What time are you leaving for the Nationals?? What price do you want for it?? Can you fit aswell???? The problem is that it wont physically turn past the ON part on the Igintion bit!So from what people are saying it dosent sound like the Immobiliser it sounds more like the Ignition Barrel now! You say you have a Good Ignition barrel and key for it?? Was so looking forward to taking her to the Jap show at Santa Pod tomoz too :( :( :( :(
