Hi,

I've just got my hands on a J plate TT which is a non runner but I'm looking forward to getting her on the road. Despite saying I wouldn't buy anything until she was running the new 18's and some side skirts are on the way!!

But I need some help.

I have spark and fuel out of the filter but she still won't start, not even a cough or splutter. So my questions

What is the best way to check the injectors are firing?

Where can I get the metal bits that hold the connectors onto the various sensors, the previous owner seems to have lost them all so the connectors can just be pulled off the PTU etc.

Any other things to check??

Put a long screwdriver on the injector and the other end to your ear - you should be able to hear the injector clicking.

Another way is to remove the CAS (Crank Angle Sensor - mark it's position before you remove it as it sets the timing) from the front right of the cam cover and with the ignition on, turn the spindle and you should hear the injectors click.

Have you done a compression check??? You might be wishing you'd saved the money for the alloys etc if it needs an engine rebuild! :o

Probably Nissan for the connector clips etc if they are available separately.

Mike at MJP in the traders section on here can do Nissan parts cheaper but I think you will have to subscribe to the forum first.

Will be the best £20 you invested in this car though it will save you a fortune in the long run ;)

As Chris says, if you have fuel and spark, then the only thing missing form the equation is compression.

No compression usually means either sticky or unseated valves or broken landers on the piston(s).

Get the compression checked on each of the cylinders once you know the injectors are firing and the plugs are sparking.

First sign aren't good, run a compression test on the left and right front 2 cylinders and getting a reading of 0!!!! even if the engine is knackered shouldn't it read something

Haven't checked that, looked into the cylinders and the pistons are. what's the easiest way to check, if they aren't what would cause that, the cam belt is ok

Are your cams turning ??

beat me to it lol

undo the front timing covers so you can see cam pullys get some one to turn the engine over while you look to see if they are turning, if they arnt timing belt gone, if you havent physicly seen the belt which sounds like you havnt how do you know it hasnt gone? :(

The cover is off on the right hand side so I have seen the belt turning and it is intact and tight. Any other ideas :headvswal

To get no compression you have to have a major failure of some sort. Does the starter sound like it has a load to crank over or does it spin the motor quite fast?

Spins quite quick but it must be turning the engine as the cam belts goes round and the pistons move. To be honest this is the 1st 300 I've had and the starter noise does sound different to any other car I've had, doesn't sound like it got much resisting it??

Do you know if the previous owner has done any work on the engine, i.e cam belt, head gaskets? If he has it could be possible he has the timing 18o degrees out, it will never start if he has. Maybe worth getting in touch with him and asking him if you can

Spoke to one or two people who said if all cylinders have compression then the head gasket must have gone big time and warped the heads. Managed to trace the garage that originally sold it, they thought the same when they took it as a part ex. So I think it's engine out time and a rebuild or does anyone have an engine to sell????

One other question, is there a link to a manual for removing the inlet manifold /engine and rebuilds?

Now he tells us lol. I guess you mean no compession, its possible but i've never known head gaskets to go at that extent without still having some compression reading especially on all 6 from both sides of a v6? Anyway try this manual

Have to agree on that one
