$70,000 worth of Z engine! front mounted turbos and more...

You have to check this post on the Aus site http://216.119.125.120/forum/index.cfm?action=getMessage&message=19591&forum=1 :

Heres some of the pics from the post:

Heres some of the specs:

Here is the cut and paste....

I saw today what could be one of the most sexily expensive Zed's on the road. Picture this:

Everything polished, custom everything motor. Huge Turbos mounted in front of the motor, massive ally radiator, massive vertically split front mount intercooler, custom HPC exhaust manifolds, exposed adjustable cam gears, everything either polished, chromed or anodised. Motor will happily spin to 13,000 rpm and support 4 bar boost. (currently being run in with no boost but still making around 250 HP at rear wheels) Estimated will be easily able to make 800 RWHP! Chi-ching...$70,000

GETRAG 6 speed sequential 'box, custom traction control (the guy apparently invented it, and has now been employed by Minardi F1 on 5 year contract handling Telemetry on their race cars) Imagine how this will handle!!

Has three customised bonnets (Summer, winter and Perspex)

Chromed, or painted custom suspension, rose jointed, and custom Neoprene bushes.

HICAS removed, aircon removed, relay box removed (from engine bay)

Pioneer TV stereo, Sony DVD player, Pioneer 924 amp, 10" Bullet sub in box. Front mounted splits.

18" chrome Works wheels with 265's on back, missed the front sizing. Slotted rotors with 6 piston calipers a comin'.

Custom leather interior, A pillar gauges etc

HPC 3" twin exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers barking out the back thru four 2 1/2" tips

Full respray in very nice red and a nice body kit.

Some of this car was made in the eastern states so some of you may know of it, will be front page on a few mags soon as pics have been taken.

I have my own pics I took today on the trusty digi cam but will be a little while before I can post them as all my softwear is in Kal but rest assured I will post them cos this is one very awesome Zed!!!

To top it all off, he drove it to the workshop were I was working on my Zed, (Interpower) and yes it wears license plates. I could hear it coming and sounded VERY mean. Pity it's going to England with him as the work just has to be seen to be believed.

Definately the DADDY!!!

So this Zed is coming to these shores, Supras and Skylines beware! biggrin.gif

WOW , that turbo idea is pretty clever.

They must have spent a fortune, i wonder where all the bits have been relocated to?

Oh and i think the figure of 13000rpm is about as much bullshit as anything ive ever heard. How many cars in production today get anywhere near that figure? None.

How many aftermarket cars get near that figure ? Cant think of any?

Must make the airflow path to the turbos longer, with all that piping.

(hate to change the cam belt though!) biggrin.gif

That engine will produce a hell of a lot more than 800bhp if it runs the 13,000 rpm at 56 psi FFS!

...should be more like 1,300 imho

Just cos it *can* run up to 13000 doesnt mean he will be doing that, its all a case of safety etc, bravo if he does.

A friends ex group A rally (delta integrale) engine was run on a dynomometer up to (IIRC) 12000 approx rpm, and was pefectly fine, then the previous owner in a rally failed the engine at 15000 rpm (damn dog boxes hehe).

The engine as it is now will happily rev to the dynomometer tested speed, but other constraints, such as gearboxes, engine bay heat etc mean that the safety margin means a revlimit of around 8000 or 8500 rpm (cant remember) and that delivers plenty usable power.

Also the lower revlimit is a trade off for not as much turbo lag etc, cos if the engine did do xx rpm then he would need a mother hubbard of a turbo to cope with it and not overspeed and shatter.

Which incidentally has had to be rebuilt in the past months cos a intercooler hose blew and overspeeded the turbo frown.gif all thanks to the nice guys at CCC. damn journos hehe.

Anyways im done rambling now so laters potaters. wink.gif

Edit: ill re read this later and maybe ill correct some of the probably many errors, just cant be arsed at the moment biggrin.gif

I have to ask a few question about this car.

1. What is the point of putting them turbos there ? there isn't a lot more room than in the stock location !

2. Run this car on the street at 40bar boost for how many secounds? you will blow the fuckin shit outta the car - You have killed the suction thru the radiator and added 2 massive hot exhuast housing rite behind it - Coolant boiling how quick ?

3. 800rwp + 4bar boost thru stock throttle bodies - im almost in tears here dude !

4. 13000 rpm - only things that would get near that in a street car is a rotary engine dude ! and even then dual rotors would blow at that ! - you simply dont have the space or construction to get that high!!!

6. would love to see the exhust manifolds - how do you say backpressure again...

5. Currently running 0 boost LMAO - i wonder why !

6. oh no its coming to England - unless im proven very very wrong im not exactly sellin my car and buying a top fuel dragster yet ! smile.gif

God is coming ...and he dont have stock turbos . . .

Never actually read the orginal post much...

4 bar is a lot - what turbo would he be using?

I just misread, still 1/2 asleep, assumed it meant front mounted intercoolers or something...is there a point? I dont know

Anyways, im sure its very nice, and *would* be interesting to see the finished car...would be very funny if he did run 4bar and 13000rpm all day long wink.gif i would have thought he'd be sensible and have an 9000 (lets be generous) and 2bar boost.

I would have thought if he did run 13000 *and* 4 bar, he would have a lot more than 800rwhp smile.gif

Ciao

Seems to be a lot of shiny shit in there for no other reason than .... having shiny shit ....

Now where's Big Mac when I need insulting ? biggrin.gif

True, but does having a chrome plated arse solve the problem. Not really, because it still needs cleaning ....

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have my car as clean underneath as on top, but driving it everyday in this climate it's just not practical.

Think you need a little army training lazy git biggrin.gif

------------------

maxpower2.jpg

I really really don't see the point in moving those turbos......

For a start - what about engine cooling? Where are the hoses from the cylinder head and water pump???

Lets look at another point too - the clearance between the cambelt and the turbos is diddle squat - how long before the belt melts and snaps??? Then when it DOES go how fuckin long is it gonna take for a belt change wink.gif

This is an idea that hasn't been thought through in the early stages - yeah it looks nice but it aint gonna work too well......

Andy

yeah but £30 to change turbos lol.

OK then, maybe the engine tech spec may be a bit optimistic, but I would give my left testicle for that 6 speed sequential gearbox!!!!

Pure sex!!!

I only use the brakes so I can accelerate all over again.

yeah but based on what they said about the engine, makes you wonder if they in do fact have a 6 speed box.

got to appreciate the work done though.

011.JPG

Now this is where the turbos should go.

No no no - you've ALL got it wrong - the turbos should be relocated to the Dining Room Table biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Installation in this location gives greatest reliability and easy of replacement.... biggrin.gif
