Panic over....just managed to get about 20 assorted drives hooked up to twist around the gearbox :hyper:

cant wait til its over n done :headvswal :headvswal

RainbowZTT has been doing the manual conversion with me :duffer: wouldnt dare attempt it without help.

Yeah you need 3 long extensions and a wobble socket on your ratchet to get them off by reaching right up from the back of the box

Great fun! :D

All but the top 2 were got at from the back of the box with 3ft's worth of extensions. It was the top 2 that were a pain, we finally got there by faffing around with a mixture of tools.

At around 10.30 last night we finally dropped the autobox out :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Can't beleive how clean the car is underneath, not a spot of corrosion.

All we've got to do is install the manual box

What top bolts - I think I lost them somewhere :D :x:

We had acces to them from behind the plenum so we'll put them back in and do the job properly :hyper:

best way is to drop the x member down to its lowest point without removing the nuts!

this will not only give you a slight amount of play reaching the top bolts, but you will find the manual box will go in about 10mins quicker ;)

auto boxes are a pain, you will find it easier putting the top bolts in on a manual alot easier as there is no dipstick

turn bolts hand tight then use a couple of feet of 3/8" extensions with uj and 6point 14mm socket and do up til then pinch

when putting the box in do the bolts up at 3 and 9 oclock evenly if its real tight slighty undo and turn crank pulley around so layshaft can sdrop in to spigot/crank

not teaching you to suck eggs, but little things make the job easier

Cheers greg, all advice very welcome :D

I'm going to make sure all the bolts are in good condition with a nice covering of copper grease. I'm converting most of the fasteners to stainless as I go.

no probs bud

and eh why not, make those 15-20 year old bolts new again!

or a long spanner from the side !

That's what I did, I put all the holes in for the clutch pedal but I didn’t fit it. Turned out to be a good thing because I wouldn’t have been able to get to that bolt on the top, Marc took all the other bolts and nuts off and we got the box out. :hyper: :D

As soon as the box was out we breathed a sigh of relief - we crossed the half way point :hyper:
