Doing manual conversion and got to taking the exhaust off. When I got to the cats I couldnt remove a wire thats going into it, couldnt find anything in the manual about it so snipped them cos the pipes were in the way to work under the car.

Q. What are the wires that go to the cat and does it make any difference cutting them?

Cheers

Marc

They are the Cat overheat sensor wires. They sense when the cat is overheating, usually from unburnt fuel burning in the exhaust system.

They only go to a light on the dashboard and cutting them wont cause any problems. Make sure you tape up the bare wires though.

Thanks bud.

I like to be safe than sorry :D

Just getting ready to unbolt the auto box now :hyper:

Replacing all the nuts etc with stainless and plenty of copper grease as I go :D

Just disconnect them and poke the wires up through the holes in the floor. Then seal the hole with a grommet.

Good idea. I'll push them through.

Q. would it make a lot of difference to the car if I decatt it at this stage or should I leave it alone and not risk damaging the tub seals?

LOL - the million dollar question. My view is that if the seals are already damaged then the cats could be masking the problem. If they're not then you'd probably be OK. I've probably done 35,000 miles with no cats and the car smokes no more nor less than it ever did.
