I can't recommend individual pubs as it is a while since I last went oout in York but apparently there is a pub for every day of the year so pretty much spoils you for choice. I always had a great night out.

I live pretty close to York and go out there quite a lot with a mate who lives there.

There's sooo many pubs and bars you won't have problems finding somewhere decent to go.

Some of the better ones in order of a pub crawl are Varsity, Pitcher & Piano, Yates's, McMillans, Merlins.

If you start at the other end of town it's all traditional pubs.

The clubs are all small places so not quite what you get in Manchester or Leeds:

Toffs (Smallish place but OK)

The Gallery (Probably the best for dance/house music but that's not saying much LOL)

Ziggy's (Like someone's house with 3 floors full of divorced women LOL)

Merlins (really a large bar but open late and pretty good)

Flares (If you want cheesey music and a combination of chavs and slappers LOL)

:)
