What petrol do Z drivers use ? Does anyone use Super Unleaded or do you all use plain old ordinary unleaded ?

Secondly, the tyre pressure chart on my Z import says 2.3 / 2.5 bar for the pressures.

Which is for the front and which for the rear ? Thanks

Premium unleaded is fine if you are running at stock boost pressure.

Super is a must if you've upped the pressure; it helps to ward off the dreaded detonation.

have you moved onto super now then Dave ?

damn that stuff is expensive.... :)

You should be able to run at increased psi on unleaded, you just need to get the right tuning.

There are quite a few things you can do to ward off detonation, without changing fuels.

But that is the easiest "quick fix" in my opinion.

timing:-

this is how some 4star cars were 'converted' to unleaded, and how you can minimise detonation, but it's not always the best way, as it can reduce power too

intake temp:-

cooling the intake charge will help too, bigger intercoolers, misting (water injection), and NOS all do this

air/fuel ratio:-

extra fuelling also helps, which is how the JWT ECU compensates with the boost upgrade.

Increasing the mixture (manually) is also a "quick fix" which was the traditional way for the local garage to stop your car pinking.

E&OE but please point them out :)

I use ordinary unleaded fuel when running up to 1bar boost. As long as I don't go for any prolonged WOT runs I don't have any detonation worries.

I only bother to use the more expensive super unleaded when running more than 1bar boost.

I think maybe an octane boost additive maybe cheaper than using super. Or you can use both

Steve

I run 95 octane at 1 bar or so. No problems.

If I go to the track or Santa Pod especially, I make sure the car has Super as it gets very hot sitting around after runs ... and to look after it while going full out round a track.

The rest of the time 95 is fine. Yes, super isn't just a quck fix, just another component you can fit to fix detination / lower the cylinder temp.

My tyres are 36psi rear / 33psi front with stock 245 rears and 225 fronts.

Jez.

ps. I've been told NOT to use octance booster by my mechanic as the 300 does not like it. Use the real stuff.
