I have a water leak in this area of the engine bay ....

The water seems to be coming from near the join on this pipe (the one with the big red arrow near it coincidentally)...

Once disconnected the metal pipe has a lot of corrosion near the end, as can be seen hear (luckily again a big red arrow happened to be right next to the affected area) ....

I have put a new clip on the pipe to try and minimise the leak but water is still coming out. So I want to get both the hard pipe off and the rubber pipe to inspect for leaks. Does anyone know where the other ends of the pipes are so I can take them off to inspect. I am guessing the hard pipe might not come off though.

These are your heater matrix pipes - I think its about £17-£20 for both from Nissan. They arnt big pipes so if you look down the back a few inches down you will see them attaching to the bulk head. Best to just replace them really - If you get stuck you can just cut the pipes out to make it easier to get them out. Them buy jubilee clips for the new pipes and install the clips - Attach the lower part of the pipes back first, then the upper connections - Its much easier that way as you can bend and move the pipes for access to the lower clips - Make sure you have a few extensions for tricky access but its not too bad - Good positioning of the Jubilee clips will make life easier!

Thanks for that Bilky. I couldn't see where the pipes go because of all the wires and other pipes and stuff that crowd that area. It was difficult to get that apart once I had taken the clip off because there was no room to get your hands in.

Are you 100% sure it's that hose that is leaking? I had a leak behind there and it was one of the smaller pipes which cools the engine. I suggest you do a water by pass and replace all the hoses while your at it. Saves you from having your engine over heating because of those stupid hoses!

99% sure, there was water running off the underside of the rubber pipe. It could however be spray from another tube leaking but I didn't feel anything when I wrapped my hand around the pipe to feel for the leak. I think the water bypass is a good idea, however I need to fix this quick.

Does anyone know the part numbers for those pipes or where they are in the workshop manual. I have the workshop manual but haven't found a pic of them yet. I want to be able to go into Nissan and point at the parts otherwise I will no doubt end up with a door handle for a micra knowing them.

I got them from MJP on here, £36 for the pair delivered and I had them the day after I ordered them. Just had to give the car details and away to go.

You really need the Plenum off to replace the steel pipes. If they are so corroded I have to say check all the metal water pipes and bin the plenum/ thottle body preheater pipes while you got the plenum off (as Wing suggested). Then get ready for your heater matrix to go.

I'd also get a Earthing kit which will help prevent such heavy corrosion of your water sysrem in future.

Ah nuts - dont fancy taking the plenum off.

It's actually my brothers car and I am looking after it while he is away. I spoke to him about this and he has mentioned getting an earthing kit when he gets back. So the heater matrix better hold out till then!

If I am changing these pipes anyway is it much extra effort to do the by-pass? It gives me the fear because I really struggled just to unclip that hose and I dont even have fat hands.
