I've got little faults that i would like to get sorted and I'm not sure if the two are connected.

Firstly, when I put my foot on the throttle ever so slightly (and I mean slightly) it hesitates really badly. It's hard to describe, it's almost like it's running on 3 and when you put your foot down a bit more the other 3 kick in, it's most noticable when cold as I use as little throttle as possible until it warms up fully.

Secondly, I have a fluctuating tickover. Sometimes it's great and just sits there at 750rpm and then other times it pulses anywhere up to 1500rpm, generally it kinda goes between 850 - 1100 but in rythmical pulses like it revs every second. When it pulses it settles after a maximum of about 20 secs. I checked out the tps plug as it was looking dodgy and it "appeared" that when I wiggled it the fault would stop so I assumed that was the fault. I cut the plug off and just put 2 spade connectors on (it doesn't look like a bodge!!!) thinking this would fix it but it hasn't.

Any thoughts people

Mine idled like that when I had a boost leak. Tested it and tightened up a few clips and job done. It did feel like it was going to stall a couple of times too when I was pulling off so it could be related

also check the tps on/off switch - ive seen a 300zx with its timing jumping aroudn by 15-30 degrees because of a dodgy tps on/off switch. this can be monitored with consult also (but try manally holding throttle fully closed and a tiny bit open

that doesnt explain though why itd run so dodgy with throttle opened a tiny bit (could be AAC/IACV or something else like that)

hmm occasionally think i get the same problem, its like when you fether the throttle pedal it feels like its goin to almost cut out, but mine generally only does this in the cold and then sometimes never at all, not very good pulling out of junctions on those cold mornings. i havent really taken much time on the engine, totally overhauled the susp. but engine will be next. i would have guessed tps, or maybe a choked injector or something.

Well I have cleaned the connectors on the yellow plug and all seems to be good with the hesitation on part throttle, just the idle to go. :D

Mine does this from time to time, a very weird feeling i have put it down do a dieing o2 sensor. Checked on Consult and the right one is slow to respond, if it does at all.

Does it when cruising at say 30mph suddenly it will go quiet and then not really notice a slight depression in the throttle and then suddenly it will shoot of.

Sounds like TPS but according to consult that is working A.OK.

Does the same at all speeds, same on the motorway.

Also gives a slightly rough sounding idle at times. Ironically a quick dab of the throttle normally fixes it. Just one of those annoying faults, like the clock... and the ariel...!

sorry guys , new to all this but mine idles rough sometimes but what is this TPS

so i can look at mine and see if thats the cause ..

TPS=Throttle Position Sensor. It's a little black box attached to the side of the passenger side throttle body. ;)
