Hamamet, very nice.Hotel Forrati is the place I stayed.

We did an all inclusive holiday at the El Mehdi Hotel in Mahdia about 4 years ago - had an excellent time: fantastic weather, great food and drink and plenty to do. :D

Went to Hammermet about 4 years ago, very relaxing inside the complex but go out to a market or madina and expect hassle from shop keepers and stall holders. Not too intimidating, just wanting to show you their goods, remember they are a North African country it's their way of doing things. Smile be firm and it's O.K. They are a friendly bunch, at the airport expect to have your trolley taken off you by a porter! LOL ,don't worry he pushes it to your coach you tip him a quid all is well. We are going back this Sunday to Port el Kentoui, it is a lot more of a mediteranian resort, cant wait. :hyper:

Went a few years ago (maybe 2001 or before?).

Stayed somewhere on the Cap Bon Peninsula - could have been Hammamet?

Hammamet is the most popular/biggest tourist resort in Tunisia with all the plusses and minuses that entails.

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk will be best for hotel recommendations.

The ancient settlement at Kerkouane was great if you like that sort of thing.

worked there for 3 years in sfax . been to all the resorts my favourite was hamamet with port el kentoui a close second , hotel deals are easy to upgrade when you are there at the desk .....a quick word with teh desk clerk and a few folding monies and usualy a much nicer room becomes available

brush up on your french ,

and most words in tunisian arabic that start with Z or N are usualy swear words :)

if you are feeling brave try the hareesa with a beer and bread ( local tomato and chilli paste in olive oil , ) dip the bread big bite then thank god you have a beer in front of you .........

if you are into gold its dirt cheap and the courses are very good and well maintained.

HTH

Cheers lads :hyper: , it was Hammamet i,ve been looking at :nana2:

Went to Port El Kentoui about 15 years ago and enjoyed it.

Expect queues of men hanging around if you have any blondes with you LOL

Don't go out there for the drinks!

Beer is silly money as they don't drink over there and there's about 1 brand on sale in redbull sized cans LOL

I seem to remember a bottle of Bells Whisky on sale for about £85 in the local market and that was 15 years ago LOL

Steer clear of Les Hotels near the airport. Personally, I have never been to a place so bad that I wanted to come home after two days. They are a dirty, lying, thieving, lazy, smelly, arrogant bunch of f2ckwits and I'll never go there again. You will get accosted every fookin where you go with them trying to sell you some shite or other, "hey del boy, special price, cheaper than Asda price". Yeah fook off!!.. Oh, and I made the mistake of changing some money for a waiter (from English to Lira) and the next thing, I'm being bothered about twenty times a day by the sneaky bast4rds.

My wife was accosted on the train by some leering bast4rd who was touching himself and licking his lips at her. I told him to fook right off and he showed me the hilt of a rather large knife so I dragged her off the train and waited for the next one!.

Weather was nice though.

No it wasn't. I got the worst dose of the shits that I have ever had. It pissed down on the day we went to the market and the water was running down through the town about a foot deep. The shopkeepers saw this as a wonderful opportunity to throw out all their rubbish and it all came down around us. There were pieces of dead animal in that water and it smelt like a badly run old peoples home.

On our last day, a few people left there cases in reception while they waited for buses etc. A van pulled up and loaded all the cases in and guess what?. They were never seen again!.

The food in the hotel was crap, covered in flies and tasted of nothing. The part of the hotel where main reception was had no European fire cert so we were in the "block" over the road. Every time you came out to go over to the main building, you were accosted by taxi drivers, hawkers and beggars. Nightmare!!.

We went to Port El Kuntooii or whatever it's called and that's a purpose built European resort so you should be OK there but the shopkeepers are still leering untrustworthy shites.

And if your girlfriend is blonde, forget it, you'll get no peace at all.

Cheers Then.
