Hey guys.

I have a '91 300zx tt 2+2 and when really on it i get a crunch in 4th and 5th but none of the other gears which is annoying coz im scared to go into 4th and 5th when nailing it as you really have to wrench it in to get it to go into gear. It will slide in if you keep the clutch down and let the revs die off but then thats loosing alot of speed and the car youve just destroyed now catches up which is pretty lame.

Any Help would be great.

Joel

i've had the same problem mate. not entirely sure of the specifics but i think it has something to do with the syncromesh being weak. most people on here change the gearbox oil to mt-90 which has been known to cure the problem. i changed my 'box oil last week and it definately made a difference.

Yea i changed the gear box oil put some really nice Castrol synthetic in there and really helped but still does it when really on tap.

Maybe a gearbox rebuild is on the cards :(

my 91 tt import doesnt crunch but it does hesitate a bit going into 2nd it the same as my dads landrover ive been told its the sync gona change the fluids though after readin what you guys said

Redline MT-90 oil is the forum favorite for improving the gearchange but it can't help a really knackered box :(
