Lost my rear fog switch for my jap zed, argh! Just before MOT as well. I am now not sure what connections go into the switch. I will get another from Maplins tomorrow. Is the switch regular spade connectors or is it a fancy nissan connector? Need to know wiring colours as i did try a switch which blew a fuse, duh!

Jap imports dont have a standard Fog light, so there usually adapted here for mot reasons, so you can use any switch or colour wire u like.....

I used a 3 spade switch & wired 1 to the reserve light just changed the bulb to a red one, 1 earth & 1 live & away you go ;)

You must have a 'Tell Tale' illumination for the switch, either on the switch, or next to it. And if you do use one of the reversing lamps, then you must use the drivers side ones, otherwise it'll fall foul of the law!

For full details etc (including the rules/regs) check out the Fog Lamp FAQ in the FAQ section (under electrics)

EDIT** OK, it's not in the Electrics section of the FAQ, but to save you looking it's here >> http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=42161

It's been law since 1985 that ALL new cars manufactured after that date and used within Europe MUST have at least one fully working rear fog lamp. All the rules and regs are in the link within the Fog Lamp FAQ.

This doesn't stop MOT stations passing them without a rear fog, but then that shows how good they are!! Look at it this way, if they missed that or just neglected to bother about it, what else did they miss or didn't bother with that could cause an accident??!!

It's OK getting through an MOT without having to pay anything, but I'd be more happy knowing that it's been checked properly, and is safe! (This is not a go at any particular person!)

in all honesty as long as the breaks and steering work and the car is SAFE i think a car should pass its MOT

my next one is due in July, and im determined it aint going to cost me a penny, yeah right!!

But it is ONLY safe items that are checked on an MOT!

I would class a rear fog lamp as particular safe, as if you're in fog and someone comes up behind you, you want them to have as much warning as possible that you are there.

But that's my opinion, and I'd never expect everyone to agree with me, and if I knew that someone deliberately was putting an unsafe car on the road, I'd shop them without a second thought, as my kids and my life is worth more than their trip to the shops any day! And I'm sure that any sane person would agree with that! ;)

I would not compromise on fog lights. Some dumbass could fly into my arse on a road without one. I like speed with perfect conditions but their are some right assclowns dont slow down in really bad conditions.
