NZR - any IIS gurus out there?

In trying to improve website, most popular was to use server side includes to get menu/navigation the same on every page. eg

Did this - tried to test on home PC (Win2k pro). Nothing.

ISP said install SSI. Did.

Nothing.

Does anyone know where I can find an idiot's guide to setting up SSI so that I can test my new website structure so I can get on with doing what I wanted to do before that bastard Gates f**ked up my life.

Thanks (PS please don't say Linux - yo umay be ri8ght but I only have two days to do this!)

Thanks - Gio

remove the spaces between the -- and # and it should work if SSI are installed correctly

Thanks for the offer of linux - it would only confuse me!

index.html page looks like

Include test title

include test body - the included menu should appear here:

Not a sausage. Suspect IIS set up as this is first install and most of the settings just dont make sense. Hence plea for idiot's guide. My heads hurts.

Thanks Mike smile.gif Gio

I've had a run round the site and others. SSI I think I can cope with.

So I need to turn my Win 2k pro PC into a server by installing IIS (Internet Information Services). Not to publish the finished website (this will go up on my usual host site) but just to test the damn thing so it works before I upload it.

Can I get IIS do do what it says on the tin? No. Even on a default install, it still says

Web publishing is on. Your home page is not available because "Default Document" is off. Then you click on Advanced Options and get some complete wibble about virtual directories.

I started this about 12 hours ago and have lurched round the "help" file which comes with IIS, the web and god only knows where else. I'm not very bright but I can follow instructions. Mainly. Where in god's earth can I find out how to set my PC up as an IIS server so I can write sites locally (on the same PC) which use SSI?
