Hello boys and girls.
A friend of mine called down to me last night to show me his 00 BMW M5 that he just bought this week, lovely car with double glazed windows, t.v and all the trimmings.
Handles absolutely fantastically for such a big car, and has the sort of throttle response that I can only dream of having with the 300.
He called over late and at 3 this morning we decided to take the two cars for a race.
We pulled onto the motorway near me which was absolutely car-less, and he took the outside lane with me in the Z on the inside.
We were at 60mph, and agreed that we would go on 3 beeps of the horn.
I had the Z (which is running nothing but an S.E chip and 14psi on auto turbos with a manual box) in third gear with the boost guage just below 0 psi and I waited for the signal.
On 3 I floored it. The M5 and the Z stayed side by side up to 80, at which point the 300 edged slowly ahead and by 110 I was about 3 car lengths in front.
Into 4th and the 300 stopped pulling on the M5, but the M5 wasn't making any ground on me either.
The 300 stayed 3 car lengths ahead of the BM right up to an indicated 160mph when the M5s limiter kicked in.
We both slowed back down to 60, and did it all over again on the way back with the exact same result.
My friend (who I would consider to be an excellent driver) was a little dissapointed to say the least!
