Dam! Change ptu, but engines still cuts out & dies...

I'v just changed the ptu, and the dam thing still aint running right.

Starts ok then sits at idle and then engine just dies... Ignition lights on..

Starts again... Runs on idle.. Then dies again.

PCV valves?

Or just a service?

Both... :wack:

Hi mate,

Ok... I'm a bit of a novice me.

So whats a MAF?

Cheers m8.

Hmmmm if you were a bit closer I would come round with a Conzult.

I may be passing through Reading next week so if you are still in trouble there is a possibility I could stop by and hook the laptop up.

Mate! Your a trooper for sure! :)

If she's still sat there is the same shape as she is now by next week i'll let you know.

Any advice/help is appreciated big time.

And if you need a new mobile, i could help you out.

:) no problem

you can check your ecu codes manually to start i reckon.

Find the plug in the drivers footwell near the bonnet release handle. Jump the two end pins together (hair-clip, paper-clip, short wire) you will see the engine warning light start flashing.

Count the short and long flashes and that gives the codes. 55 (5 long, 5 short) is all clear.

This might be irrelevant but, a few years ago I had the PTU symptoms. Took it to a Nissan dealer & they put a new PTU in (but it was a Series 1 PTU - I didn't know any different at the time). 6 weeks later, the problem was back, so I presumed it wasn't the PTU (even though it had all the normal PTU symptoms). Took it to a few different places & spent plenty of money replacing other stuff - obviously it made no difference. I ended up buying another car while my 300 just stood in the garage, pissing me off. After several years, I heard about the Series 2 PTU and got one from Luke last year. Problem solved, and the car is fine. :D

So, long shot - was your new PTU a series 1 or 2?

Alright dude.

New 1 is a series 2 PTU, which i fitted at lunch time, thought it would run fine after fitting, but nope, not a chance. Took her down the road and she's aint a happy bunny that's fer sure...

So next step is PCV valves and see if they're blocked and need cleaning / replacing... Spannering a car like the TT is new to me, so i'm learning as i go. :smash:

Fun tho' so i dont mind.

Seems like fuel starvation 2 me, she runs ok, but then gets all shitty and then dies. Its def not the pump or fuel reg as they are brand spankin.

Hello bud,

If I was you I would get some contact cleaner and start by cleaning every connector you can get to in the engine bay. I had what looked like PTU problems and it turned out to be the CAS connector was dirty and caused my car to cut out ;)

Inuendo's, u just gotta luv em... :D

Cheers Darrell.

Get a small sharp screwdriver and really scrape off the gunk from the lugs in the connectors.

A good spray of WD40 will do the trick. Try to do every connector you can see.

Also wiggle all the wiring loom just to check its not old corroded wires. (I had your same problem when I first got the zed, brand new loom sorted it in the end.)
