Hi there. Recently I purchased a 1988 300 ZX in bad condition and trying to get it together. My problems is my brakelights will not go out. I have to disconnect the battery. I try the tail/stop sensor in the back where the tail and stop lights are, no help. I unplug the rear tail/stop lights and the brake light in window want go house. I got a limited knowledge on trouble shooting and I have tried about everything. Please help. You guy got a good web site. Thanks to all.

If it's a 1988 300ZX you've got, it'll be a Z31 ("our" Z32 model was 1989 onward) and if so, you might find more people with Z31 experience on http://www.zclub.net

Good luck either way :D

You might want to try the pressure switch mounted just above the brake pedal, i had the same problem with mine, either get a new one or clean it with electrical contact cleaner.

I know we are mainly a club for z32 300zx's 89-2000 but i am sure we can also help welcome and help owners with older 300zx's (it would not hurt would it)

not "mainly"....but entirely Z32. Im sure if anyone knows the answer they will help though, some owners may have had Z31's

I am still looking for the answer David Lol :p

Now now - of course everyone's welcome here, all I meant was if he was looking for some 1988 ZX specific answers he'd probably stand a better chance at ZClub. Although, as legrath says, if anyone here knows the answer, I'm sure they'll help.

As james said above it will most likely be the brake light switch fitted just below the Brake pedal. it is ether jammed or may have been knocked and need re-adjusting via one or two nuts

Disconnect the connecter at the back of the switch! the brake lights should turn off.

Have a look here! Z32 model but should be similar Manual
