just as ive posted the car for sale, somethin goes wrong!, was driving today on the motorway and was hearing a rattling noise

it happens at idle and gets worse (when hits 6500 its so loud)

i use vpower fuel all the time and im only on 10.5psi, the car is not loosing power just sounds rattly! the oil level is fine (topped up recently)

i had to drive it like 30miles but wasnt thrashin it once i heard the sound

i obviously want this fixed before i sell it now, but will it be an engine out job?

any suggestions what it can be, ive turned the car off and turned it on an hour later, still the same noise, cant get it looked at cause my mechanic is on holiday yipee, and i dont want to drive it

serves me right for putting her for sale

im low on fuel and have a petrol can, could it be a bad batch of vpower lol (clutching at straws)

it sounds like its coming from the top left of the engine if i rev it to 6000rpm it gets quite bad, it did go away yesterday after drivin it like an old women but as soon as i revved it once, it came back again permanantly

hate to say it mate but it sounds like ya big ends are away. if you take the revs up slightly from tickover up to around 3500 - 4000 does the noise start around 2000 - 3000 then drop off and come on again at higher revs??

ive just done my own big end shells and they were not too bad but i caught the rattle very early. and stopped drivin the car. so i manged to leave the engine in the car. as the crank wasnt knackered.

i hope i,m rong but i did here a familiar sound listening to the recording

but then again wat can anyone say from a recording

you can hear the noise all the time, it gets louder the higher the revs, but the tappitee noise is still there at idle

is it a light rattle or a hard knocking sound?

watever it is i wouldnt advise driveing the car anymore till youve found out wat it is as you could totally destroy ya engine if it is the bottom end. :hurl:

my advice is to park it up and get some one who is good with engines to have a listen.

if youd been a bit closer i could have driven up and had a look and told you if it was the bottom end or hydraulic lifters.

has the car been low on oil recently?

how many miles on the engine?

wat grade oil ya using?

wen was the last oil change?

do you use the car regular?

it could be a couple of sticky lifters......but its hard to tell from the recording

good luck...hope you sort her out mate :)

oil was changed recently like 1500 miles ago

105km (65k miles) running on 10.5psi

i use it all the time lol

Certain Engine oils can cause problems with hydrolic tappets
