Im currently thinking about buying a 300zx tt to replace my pulsar gtir, anyway what kind of things should i keep an eye out for ? is leather worth more, any other options that i might come across, is an import better/worse than a uk car ? what is the current asking price for a non/low modded 91-92 tt and is there anything in particular i should stay away from ??

Thanks in advance

Hi Neil.

This Topic has been discussed many times, i suggest you have a look thru the time line archives for similar questions for more in depth detail.

Also depending on where you are in the country someone may come with you to have a look at the car.

Just to put some points forwards to you questionds

:anyway what kind of things should i keep an eye out for ?

Yes Lots, clocked imports, highly modded ones or ex highly modded ones that have been dropped back down to stock but still have the damage that modding a car can cause. Dodgy Auto box on early models check shift and modes for correct operation. Check ECU for error codes. Vibrations of any kind thru steering wheel seat of floor. Smoke from Turbos (black or blue), white is ok in small doses. Aftermarket ECU, superchips = run.

:what is the current asking price for a non/low modded 91-92 tt ?

seems to be around 7K for a average condition car of that age. Good condition with below average milage can be around 10K

Leather doesn't usually fetch anymore but is worth it if you like that sort of thing. however leather usually craks badly on late models and will need replacing.

UK spec are genuinly sligthly more desirable as you have a few less problems from people and light bulbs are easier to get hold of lol. also insurance on imports can be pain these days but as for quality of car, you will usually get a Better car for less money on import IF YOU GO TO A DECENT PLACE. not some dodgy, tokyo scrap yard theif importer.

Also think about a direct import from Japan if you can still do them.

Good luck

Z ya

Hello Neil

A wise choice!

I have owned quite a few cars supras, a couple of porsche's etc. but none hold a candle to my Z. It is by far the best looking and most comfortable car to drive I

have had!. Look hard and get yourself a good

one, don't be tempted to buy the first one

you see. I ended up buying a Red UK spec twin turbo(late 1990 model). The car had done 70,000 miles and has got leather seats.

Even though it is an early model the leather

was in very good order. I have to say I personally prefer leather seats as they look the mutts nuts.

After two years of ownership I have not had

many problems with this car. Having said that

I have recently been modifying the car and this has bought to light some other problems,

only to be expected as the car is knocking on

a bit now. As Nico has said it may be wise

to avoid a heavily modified Z and hunt for a

well maintained standard one as I did.

You have found one of best places to gain

information on the Z. The forum is very helpful giving you information you otherwise

would not find elsewhere. Since finding the

forum a few months back it has been an

invaluable source of info from owners of these cars. These guys do know their Zeds!!

If you do find one you are uncertain of

post your queries to the forum, I am sure

the can help.

Good luck in finding your Z,

and enjoy the ride!!

Neil,

I don't know of any Z owner who has kept his car stock. You WILL want to upgrade. I would suggest speaking to Dave Hairs who has his up for sale. Many thousands spent and he is asking for a very fair price. It has a fully recon auto box (upgraded) and new turbos. These fail on Z's at some time or another and you are looking at 3-4k minimun to replace them back to stock condition.
