Looking at buying a DVD or hard disc recorder as soon as possible. Was wondering what people think are the best models to go for?

Cheers,

So much choice for PVRs these days, I always fancied a Panasonic one but that was a couple of years back. Now you can get a cheapy in Tesco for about £75 or one of the dual Freeview tuners (TopUpTV Anytime) for about £90.

I still have my TiVo and have no plans on changing it for a while. Although, this little bombshell was dropped a couple of days ago and it's the only thing that might make me consider anything from Sky :-

I have admit that I love my Tivo, after AndyP introduced me to the item, he has a lot to answer for :smash:

I have no plans on changing it either, since I opted for the lifetime subscription :wack:

My gut feeling is to go with a cheapy DVD recorder to solve our immediate problem (family member appearing on BBC2, hence the need to record the event! Lol! :)) and then look for a decent HD unit afterwards...Hmmmm....And I'll be honest, I know bugger all about Tivo! :D

Is that the box that digitally records films and TV programs strait on to its own hard drive Thingy ma whatsit.

I bought my mum and dad a sagem dual tuner digi hard drive recorder from argos. Cost me 170 quid a year and a bit ago and the new version's out.

Fantastic bit of kit and the well worth the money

Bought a Humax twin tuner recorder(you can record 2 channels and watch another/something you're recorded). Absolutely brilliant bit of kit and so glad I bought it. The only niggle is that it updates the programme guide everytime you turn it on from standby so if you want to record something in a hurry, you have to wait a couple of minutes which is no real biggy. You also get the software to connect it to a PC via a USB cable so you can transfer films/music/photos so putting stuff onto a dvd/cd is pretty straight forward :)

the thing with the Sagem is you can't record 2 channels at the same time ;)

How much did that set you back if you don't mind me asking Vijay? :) Sounds pretty darn good to me! Cheers for the input so far guys :)

I got a decent brand hard drive and DVD recorder / re-writer.

The hard drive is ace - it constantly buffers the last 6 hours TV. You can pause and re-wind live TV too. The DVD recording facility is handy when you fill the hard drive up. All bases covered for 250 odd quid (and that was a year ago so they´re probably cheaper now).

Well, took myself off into Comet this afternoon to have a look of them in the flesh, so to speak. Usually avoid the place as I prefer to get a better deal over t'interweb...did see the Huma but decided against it as I don't need the Freeview...however...they had an ex-display DVDR3380/05 with in built 160Gb Hard Drive with all the bells and whistles for £160. I got chatting to the sales guy and he also threw in £40's worth of DVDR's and leads to connect it to my computer. Result! :D Cheers for the help guys!

Leigh.

don't need the freeview, take it you won't be recording normal telly then?
