Anyone had or having any problems with there Sky+ box? Ive had it a year now. 5 months after I got it, it started playing up, when I played back something that I had recorded, it kept freezing half way through, so you had to reset the box by un plugging it for 10minutes.

Anyway after ranting at Sky, they sent an Engineer out with a new box. And today, my second box is doing it nox ffs. So they are sending another engineer out with another box on monday. 3 SKY+ boxes in a year. GGGrrrrrrr

mine went tits up the other week about 3 months out of warranty. The hard drive was fekked (couldnt record or playbacK) so i bought a bigger one 250 gig as opposed to the 80 gig in them. Was skipping all over the place but not on all channels but it fixed the recording prob.. Adjusted the dish and got an extra 20% on my signal but the skipping was still there. did all the engineer full resets and forced a software download, still no good.

Sent sky a snotty email about crap customer service, crap equipment rant rant rant and they phoned up and sent an engineer out half price ( normally 60 or 65)

he swaped boxes and hey presto all is fine

I've had 3 Sky+ boxes in a year too. 2 Amstrads and one Pace. So far, the Pace seems to be OK (touch wood).

Right, the Sky engineer came out, and he admitted to me that the Amstrad box is a pile of crap, so he installed me a nice new PACE one.

I asked him what would happen to me old Amsrad box, and he said that it will be refurbished, and sent out as new. SKY.....Cheeky coonts. oh well, I'm sorted. :)

YES! I had megga problems Rich'. I kept loosing the transmition when it rained. I programed recordings and they never did record. I complained and they told me to monitor it for 6 weeks and report back. I did this and was told I would have to pay £60 call out plus any repair bill as I had, had the box for more than 12 months. It was 3 weeks over the year. I was conned and so I moaned and they said they had no record of me phoning before???? Basically called me a liar so we went to Virgin media (NTL then). Ok we dont get Sky One but we do get TV on demand and thats a great thing and its HD. All this with free installation and you rent the box not own it so if it goes wrong at any time in the future you get it fixed for free. It does lock up now and then but these are teething problems and its only for about 20 seconds worst way. Well worth considering. IMO.

Oh yeah! its got 80 hrs recording to hard drive too.

Had problems with my first and second but the SKY+ box generates a lot of heat a bit like our Z'eds!!! You'll notice the picture freezing up a lot more this time of year with the rise in temprature so your SKY+ box needs to have plenty of airflow and ventilation around it... Ever since i've taken the back of my tv cabinet to allow more airflow and left the SKY+ Box on a shelf all on it's own it's been working 7months ok!!! I'm sure Luke at Z centre will do some cool vents for a SKY+ box soon!!! :D

the only problem iv'e had with sky is the customer service talking *****x. they said i cant have sky here in toulouse. 6 months later i find out they were talking complete shite all i needed was a 80Cm dish. thanks for the info

yeah they said they dont broadcast outside the UK, but you can still pick up the signal. you just need the box. only found that out the other week tho

A lot of the problems with sky+ box is pretty much the same as a computer every now and again you need to defrag the hard drive, cant remember exactly how you do it but if you ring sky and ask to be put through to HOUSKEEPING they will talk you through the process, not absolutely positive but they may have to do something from their end at the same time. we have 2 boxes and have had since they came out, weve had 1 changed 6 times, and the other.....never!! work that 1 out!!

I have since got a freeview+ box that allows me to record, pause, rewind etc all what sky did but for free and none of the crappy channels i never actually watch!

i used to take the hard drive out and connect it to a "ATA133 to USB" adapter so i could transfer all my stuff on to the pc quickly. id then use perfect disk 8 to defrag it. never had a problem doing it like that
