Ive just failed the MOT on 48 seperate counts.Every light on the car seems to not work all of a sudden, but I seem to get to work

But the flipping car failed the emitions without a single puff of smoke at any time

Its saided through every year except teh flipping emitions which where due to faulty PCV, which I replaced last year.

Can't you just pull a vaccum pipe from the back of the plenumn to help it through emmisions.

I'm sure there was a trick like this that seemsed to work I just can't remember the exact details.

take it somewhere else and contact VOSA

had one like that on the missus xr2 the guy said the handbrake had failed but when i questioned him about a price he said oh i dont know cos we dont know exactly wht it is it could be the drums or the cable or both.. and a new handbrake cable is like 100 quid..

it was at this point i told him to forget it, adjusted the handbrake and took it elswhere.. sailed through..

course figured out afterwards he was advertising cheap mots at 25 pound and making up the deficit with overpriced work

people like that make my fists twitch

In fairness, the station I go to has a fella there who normaly does it for me who's pretty well known on the drag scene. But he was doing something else, so I got the old coont that looked like his dog just died.

Got teh distinct impression it was going to fail no matter what with him. Dont you love people who love their jobs

bloody harsh if you ask me take it somewhere else mate i will bet that if i does fail it will be on something silly

Ive sorted all the lights I can. there are 2 that I cant work out whats up with them so its going to see Mr Mechanic on Thursday

A lot of it is the connectors from the "uprated" lights I have fitted, they just wont stay connected for 5 minutes.

Still when its done, it will be perfecto as there isnt anything else wrong with it.

Famous last words lol

OK It failed all emitions (but I think the fella may of had it set wrong)

Lights basicaly seem to all developed stupid faults

Mains out of align

Foglamps apparently faulty, but I checked and they came on so I need to ask what he meant by faulty

Sidelams have fallen out and are dangling down the inner wing

Rear fogs have done the same thing

Fog indicator dont come on

Hazzard switch fell off and warning light did not come on

Reverse light apparently dont work, but i checked and they do

Have you noticed that not one thing on here is serious except the emitions, and thats prob becaus ethe car was not taken for a drive to warm it up 1st

Reverse lights isn't on the MOT and also fog lights, i know this as my wifes reverse light on her BMW 318 hadn't worked for a while, when i took it to the garage for its MOT i said to the tester about them not working and could i book it in to get fixed, he said he could fix them but its not an MOT requirement so i just left it and i have been driving my 518 for over 2 years with 1 fog light.

Just to add i MOT'd mine today (518 not the Z) and Mot'd the misses on Friday (Primera P12) both tests front fogs not included or reverse.

With the emmisions thing, can you not ask them to test the car on both sides?

Mine had a lazy O2 sensor on one side, other was fine, emmisions were bad on one side so i asked them to test on the other side, that was fine thus it passed!!

I thought all fitted equipment has to work.

eg. if youve no rear wiper its ok, but if you have one it has to work, same applies to lights i believe.

I'm pretty sure reveresing lights and front fogs are "optional" as it were

We had a Discovery, its reversing lights never worked, and was never pulled up in MOT's....

The rear fog is the only mandatory one i believe.

But that could be year based, similar to cataytic convertors and side repeaters, i think if its before 1978 then the car doesnt have to have them... or somthing like that :) Another useless piece of information brought you by Quavey

I hope you get this sorted, don't let the same guy test it again, refuse to let him and stay with the car saying you don't believe the guy know's what he's doing.

All the best

OK sorted most of it.

Need to get 3 wiper blades as the rear is shot and teh 2 fronts that are chrome have rusted and look dogshit. ANyone know who sells them as Halfords dont

I meant front fog lights are not on the test the rear fog light is as its a visual warning light.
