No once its registered thats it.

But try other insurance firms.................. try Frizzel :)

why is it double the price?????.

If it's been repair right why charge more. bet if it's hit again they'll say it was worth less as it's a cat c loss

Was watching a TV prog last night, wrecks to riches, that repairs similar cars. They had it tested and removed from the list so it is or was possible. They said it was done under a more rigourous system than the MOT which checked the alignment and repairs etc.

It must be worth a quick google at least.

Good luck with it.

I've had several Cat C and Cat D damaged vehicles and its never caused an Insurance price increase

Ditto me too. The only sticking point may be when you have to claim (fire/theft etc) and they say because it is on the register it's not worth as much :xxx: :wack:

As for taking off the register, it's NOT possible these days, but you could take it and have it Autoline inspected. They look at it and if it is as good or better than manufacturer spec they give a certificate stating as such. It can be treated as a straight car from then on iirc...

I bought a cat c 306 and got it repaired.had it inspected by vosa who gave me a certificate.sent this to the insurance and the premium was the same.id change insurance mate.

ive not known it to cause a difference either, i've had a cat d pug 306 a few years ago...

i used to work as an underwriter for a large insurance company, the fact that the car is Cat C should make no difference to the insurance quote, however if you do have to claim they will use the fact that it was Cat C against you slightly. :wack:

What he says above ! :)

Think the VOSA check is about £40.

Alan.........

He will have had the VOSA VIC test, you cant put it back on the road with out it.

(and its just an identity check to match up the VIN numbers...etc)

also not all cat c vehicles need a vic test as some insurance companys dont put a marker against the vehicle, which means it wont show on the v5 unless you do a hpi check, to find out whether a vehicle needs a vic test or not is by ringing them & giving the make model & reg number they will tell you straight away whether vehicle needs a vic or not.

so if i come to insure the zed & not tell them it was a cat c loss then they might not pick up on it??

It used to be that not all Cat C vehicles needed a VIC but as of April 2005 all Cat C must undergo the MOT & VIC test before the V5 is sent out but as he already owned the car he has the logbook so it might not have had the VIC test and this is why he has been able to put it back on the road and tax it. This could be the reason for the increase to insurance, any salvage cars i have bought i called the DVLA and thay will tell you if the car requires a VIC.

Went thtough all this a couple of months ago with regard to my Wifes TRD Celica (red one in my sig pic) It was a catogory D write of due to the fact that the TRD Spec engine was £950 + shipping and Taxes on a car valued at £13,500 to £15,500.

We both really loved that car it was awesome so we looked at various means of repairing it and what the insurance consequences would be. We were told that in order to get the cat D write off removed from the car it would have to be repaired to original manufacturers spec and have a Vosa approved engineers report.

This ment that we couldn't drop a VVTLi 190 or a Mspec engine in. So we looked at having the original rebuilt, but the block is Alloy and the bores have no liner only a special treatment. So no could do. Found out only 500 spec ever made and couldn't get a second hand engine so had to let it go.
