I'm trying to design the audio in my car. In the zed I had some JBL GTO 6.5 components running off a 4x45 headunit. They sounded pretty good but I'd get a bit of popping when I cranked up the volume.

Anyway so now I want to spend a bit more on Audio although not mega bucks.

I'm looking into using this single 4 channel amp to power the front speakers and a sub.

Thing is in the mode that I want to use it the ratings are 2 x 55 watts rms + 150W for a sub.

Now my question:

The headunit I have is rated at 4 x 50 watts. Does this mean there will be hardly any difference when I run my speakers on the amp mentioned above compared to my head unit? I'm thinking that maybe the head units wattage is peak power rather than RMS. Or maybe that amp is just a bit weak.

Thanks in advance,

Al

You can power the rear speakers off the head unit as it's just "rear filll" and use the amp for the front speakers and sub.

depends what kind of sound and how much money you are willing to spend. I have disconnected my rear speakers and i have gone for mb quartz components in the front, run by a jl audio 300/1 amp. Then for the back i have a jl audio w7 sub (mother of all subs) and that is run by jl audio 1000/1 mono amp. kenwood dvd player set up cost £2600 but sounds wicked. Just depends what you are after

installed them for a living, and as a hobbie. A good ice setup (personal choice...)

SubAmp: Good raw Power. http://www.eaudio.co.nz/caliber_ca2000d.htm

Sub: Digital Designs - http://www.ddaudio.com

JVC Headunits sound very clean and crisp - better than clarion or other expensive brands when run through spectrum analyzers and noise.

Main Amp: http://www.eaudio.co.nz/ca475plus.htm

DLS front and rears are perfect if you want clarity.

The other thing to remember, is that the bass box needs to be tuned. The 300zx is a perfect car for building a sub box in as the shape of the rear window creates a wonderful almost gramophone type effect. In my mates zx, we calculated the interior volume of the car as the second chamber of the subbox and used one window wound down about 1.5" as the second port.

Have a look at this piece of software, its very excellent http://www.ht-audio.com/bassbox.htm

Some good stuff thanks. How much is all that stuff though? Didn't see any prices.
