I sent an email to api asking if they have got any recon z32 tt engines and got this reply, do they think i'm stupid or what?!

Thank you for your interest in API Engines.

 

We do not have any of those suitable for recon at the moment so it would have to be done off your original engine.

 

I would expect the cost to be £2495.00 for the engine work and a further £750.00 for fitting should you need it.

 

Mostly on these cars, many ancillary components are worn out too. such as coil packs that suffer from the heat of the engine and fall apsrt in your hands. together with may of the wiring plugs and connectors. the job can turn into a nightmare in our experience and we are uanble [ obviously ] to put a figure on what may or may not need replacing on the outside of the engine until the job is under way.

 

Then you need to consider the state of the turbos, as worn ones will jeopardise the new engine and the cost could just run away. One thing after another.

 

We will be happy to do the job subject to your understanding of the above.

i bought a low mileage engine complete with turbos for my zed from API approx 4 yrs ago cost £1700 but it was a good engine with 180 psi in each cylinder

seems like a sensible and well considered reply. Im assuming it will carry a warranty with it that will actually mean something.

1700 for a complete engine with turbos, so you wouldn't think it would be 2500 to rebuild mine then, doesnt look like that includes the turbos either. Also the 2.5 was excluding vat and fitting.

Totally agree!-at least you have warning!

Trouble with engine rebuilds is that untill it's apart,you don't know the damage/cost!

Consider these as well dude, all machine work done in-house, even went for a job there a while back!-not far either ;)
