I'm going to try sort out Mrcus's auto box out tomorrow, just would like a few questions clarifiying first if poss. I've looked at the online manual on doing this

but when you drain the oil does this empty the torque convertor as well, also is it possible to drain all the lines as he has an aftermarket oil cooler on.

What is the best thing to clean the box filter with, says Mineral turps???? whats this, as i dont want to use the wrong stuff.

We have a new filter and good oil,but think it would be best to flush the system with ordinary box oil before putting in the good stuff as the old oil smells burnt. just hope that theres not loads of bits in the fluid or metal on the magnet.

thanks in advance

By drainning the oil in sump you will only drain approx 3 litres total amount including tc is approx 7/8 litres

tbh when i last changed autobox oil i just drained the oil in sump & cleaned the filter with petrol specially the mesh in filter, i didnt bother removing the tc. which tbh you should depending on condition of old fluid otherwise you will just contaminate the new fluid with old try searching on the forum should find all info you need

Right i've had a good look around and theres not any real info about fully emptying the fluid out, one post did say about putting a pipe down the filler pipe and pumping the fluid out after you've emptied it out of the sump.

If you took out the start fuse could you turn over the engine for a few sec's so the auto box pump engauge's and pumps the fluid out from one of the oil coller pipes????

Don't run an auto box with no fluid! If the fluid smells burnt then the box is more than likely fubar :( Best way would be to do several changes with cheap fluid, change it, drive round the block, change again....
