Hi All

My 300zx TT has a problem and I would be most grateful for any advice. About four months ago the car was showing signs of hesitating when the accelerator was pressed. Not long after it simply died and would not run, it would start and then cut out again. The car has not been used since as I have been so busy at work but I now need to sort it out. Any tips on what I should look at would be great. I did install a newer model PTU some years back so I don't think it could be that. Please help, the car looks very sad just sat there collecting dust!

I have not posted on the forum for some time and did join back in 2001 under the user name Simon H. It's nice to see that the 300zx forum is still going strong with lots of members. I have owned my 300zx since 1998 and in all that time this is the first real problem that has stopped me using the car. Great shame as I still find it a really fun vehicle to use. Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards

Simon

Thanks for the quick response guys. I will clean the connectors and check the fuel pump this evening.

Vijay, we have not spoken for a long time M8. Hope the you and the family are all well and I am pleased to see you still have that white zed. I still think you made a wise move with the rear arches on you Zed!!. Sorry I have not stayed in touch but I don't get a chance to use the computer as much these days. I have been through quite a few vehicles since we last met, but always kept my Zed!

fuel pump maybe

Or fuel pump controller. I know these tend to get dry solder joints and it would explain it starting and then stopping.

Yeah everything's good mate and glad you're still alive :) I've still got the pics of your car and wondered where you dissapeared to, glad to see you kept your Z :)

I would deffo go with the cleaning of all the connectors, it can make such a difference ;)

I will check all of the things suggested so far and go through the connectors. I hope it is something simple like a bad connection. Thanks all once again for the replies to my question. After doing a thorough search of the club site it seems many people had a similar problem that was cured by either cleaning or replacing the PTU. I suppose the problem with my car is that it is getting old now and things are becoming somewhat tired.

I would love to see the pics you took of my car Vijay if you do still have them. If you get a chance M8 and they are on your computer please do E-Mail them over to me. That really was a few years ago now!!

hi mate i had similar prob like you and mine droped dead on me as well i didnt use it for over 12 months and it developed hesitation but was ok after being stood for a while i stated it and it was rough then just died on me, if you search threds youl see what probs i had, iv still not sorted mine after changing bits im realy fed up now iv had mine for 4 years and no probs until now. best advise i can give you m8 is just follow the route ptu - cas - leads ecu etc iv done everything like i said read my threas also another guy mickeydoo he's having same probs. cheers

Many thanks for the pictures Vijay. The time has certainly flew by since they were taken. My car was looking somewhat better cared for back then. Has your ZX been much trouble since then?. I must say that mine has not really had any real problems up till now. If I can get it sorted I need to install the ACT clutch and flywheel I have had waiting on a shelf for over two years!!. The centreforce one I had did not last long.

Thank for the info whitelightning. Over this weekend I will go through what has been suggested so far and hopefully will get a result.

Hi All

I put some fresh fuel in the car over the weekend and bypassed the fuel pressure control unit, but it still has the same problem. I can only assume that the fuel pump has failed. I will install a new one this week and also replace the fuel regulator. Hopefully this will cure the problem and I will let you know how I get on.

Hi Vijay

Checked all the connectors, changed the spark plugs and checked the coil packs. The car is wanting to go but it just seems like not enough fuel is getting through. I should get the new pump tomorrow so I hope this will cure it. However knowing my luck, I doubt it!!

Well, I found the problem!. The fuel pump was on its last legs and also the AMF sensor was faulty. Changed both, turned the key and all is well. I was really at a loss but thanks to some good help and advice from the forum and also the guys at ZTech I will be using my car over the bank holiday. Thanks all and a big thank you to Ryan at ZTech for supplying the parts I required.

Kind Regards

Simon
