Aint it great being a Zed owner and having to repair oil leaks....again. Cam seals have been changed about 8k miles (3 years ago). The oil looked like it was coming from the front crank seal area but could have come from higher up. I have a new crank seal, what kinda job is it getting the gear off the crank, is it better to gently heat the gear or is it a PITA job. As can be seen in the pics cars in bits anyway.

They are normall pretty well stuck on there. I used a wedge on mine and it came off. Other people cut them off with dremels.

You can gently lever it with two pry bars, or drill a couple of holes in it and split it!

Cheers for the replies guys. Would I be right in saying there is a thin washer behind the gear.

yes theres a plate behind the sprocket ;)

Tried brute force once. It cost me a £150 oil pump. Ever since I have attacked them with a grinder and then split them. New pulley..... £35.

soak in wd-40 for a while!

if no movement from sprocket with a pry bar each side of it try the following as already stated!

you are better off using an air grinder and carefully cut in, finish of with a metal chisel to split it, as mentioned be careful of oil pump behind.

Cheers for the replies. I was gonna try and maybee gently heat the gear first, hopefully that'll loosen it a bit.But I have noticed the washer at the back of the gear is loose so I am thinking the gear has sprung away a bit. Will update as soon as I get it off.

some do some dont it tends to be luck. Normally worst is if a water leak at the front of the engine develops it then generally means water drips down on to spocket and in time welds the little bleeter on there

nice one all the same :D

The gear came off no worries but the seal was a PITA to remove. Had to file a lip on my pound shop plain screwdriver and then lightly belted it and it fell oot 1st time but thats life also.

for future referance john, if your careful use a fine bladed screwdriver and gently tap with a hammer so it cuts in to the seal! then scoop it out, just be careful not to scratch or damage the oil pump or mating surface, then installing new one, use old one as a drift so it knocks in straight and true :)
