GARRETT TURBO'S

are the standard turbos on zeds GARRETT?

does garret have a web site?

Featured Replies

Garret t25 spec, they are a little different to a t25 as they have been made for the zed.

Just a thought for the techies out there, is it just the cases that are specific to the zed? i.e. are the internals the same (bearings seals etc.), if so, it would mean that you could possibly get the blowers repaired for a lot less as they use stock parts.

Any thoughts?

I think the internals are the same as the T25, they just have handed housings for left and right.

Leigh.

No Garrett turbos on the Z use common stock off the shelf parts - I could repair the average turbo for less than 15 quid in parts - Not including labour of coures.

Makes you think why people over here say BB turbos can't be rebuilt !!!!

yup lol, fucking bunch of ripoff merchants.

I take my blowers home and get them repaired ie brand new bb cartriges, new exhaust housings super 60 trim blades for under £500 biggrin.gif

over here they wanted £1900 for one new turbo lol.

Nico,

Are you saying to repair the standard Z turbo would only cost you £15 in parts!

Mark

Yup !

If you buy the parts from the rite place

And also let me tell you this the work involved in the rebuild aint exactly brain sugery either - the cost of machinery and instrumentation to make sure they are balanced properly is pretty severe but stil no excuse for 800 quid per turbo that some places charge.

Thought you could. We have a GTO TT as well (it needs an engine though!) and I have the full workshop manual which details testing and repairing the turbo's. There can't be that many manufacturers of these devices so I thought it must be in the casing.

Would you know if the upgrades that are offered are basically replacing the turbo fan and seals, 'cause that sounds like we are getting ripped as well e.g. how much work is there in putting the 200SX unit in the 300ZX housing (or am I a bit optimistic here?).

Use a 200sx exhaust housing /200sx exhaust impellor on 300zx center shaft / 300zx intake / 300zx impellor / 300zx centershaft and you Will make very good power gains indeed, except it will be very laggy.

Probably good for about an extra 200 horses on this motor.

You will need new downpipes, which will be pricey.

You could have the intake housing machined out to get the 200sx blade to fit BUT you might get alot of pressure on the thrust bearing as it spins to full boost, and in that case it wont last very long.

Plus who the hell in this country has the ablity to machine an intake housing lol.DEFO not shitty techniques.
