I'm sure this has been talked about before .. but i need a refresher course plz.

Petrol leakage seems to be an ongoing problem with my 96 non turbo, ive had the pump replaced, replaced some of the fuel lines that are easy to get to on top of the engine, but the smell of petrol is back :( .. like real bad.

can some one tell me where their might be hidden or out of sight fuel lines that i mightened be able to see, would like to try on fix this on the weekend so any help/advice would be great.

mate i had the same problem turned out that the petrol line clips near the plenum were loose, once i tightened them all up the smells never come back, go back and check all petrol line clips make sure they r fully tight. good luck

Most common ones are the fuel lines on top of the engine and in particular the fuel regulator just to the top right of the central cover up the engine. It looks like a small mushroom shaped thingy with 3 pipes going to it. The tiny piece of pipe underneath is hidden and a common problem.

The other hidden pipe is as someone else said, under the plenum/throttle linkage at the front centre of the engine.

It joins the 2 halves of the fuel rail and is a pain to get to.

thanks again .. i found a fuel line diagram in another thread (great site this).

i'll let you know how i get on :)

i ended up taking the plenum off, replacing the hoses and replacing the clips from the standard spring type to ones tightned with a screwdriver. fixed it. while it was off, also replaced the water hoses, they were about due.

You can actually bypass all those little water hoses under the plenum :)

They are only there to stop it icing up in extremely cold countries so it's just more to go wrong here.

I had a very strong smell of petrol i could smell from inside the car too, couldnt find any pipes leaking, found the top of one of the injectors wet with petrol took plenum off and injectors out and found the injector was cracked under the cap

If you can smell it then its pouring out - take a look under the car next time! It runs down the back of the egine and trickles off the gearbox bell housing. On mine it was the FPR down hose to the injector rail hard to see but reasonably easy to fix.
