Looking to do this myself, I am fairly handy with a set of spanners just wondering if I need any special tools for the job? Have looked in the search sections and cant find any reference to one. Anything likely to trip me up?

A small puller to get the bottom crank pulley off. Some people say hit it off with a hammer....up to you.

Thats all I can think of.

Not too bad a job really.

Dont use a hammer, a short 3 legged puller should do it, youll need a 27mm socket if my memory serves me right, its alot of work.

Little shopping list for you ;) (in case it helps)

Timing Belt

Accessory Belts (imo fit full Unorthadox pulley set)

Tensioner Assembly

Belt Tensioner + Idler Studs (3)

Thermostat

Water Hoses (2)

Water Pump

Water Pump Gasket

Intake Cam Sprocket O-rings (2)

Intake Cam Sprocket Springs (2)

Cam Seals (4 req'd)

Yes am awaiting the price of a cambelt kit from mjp i guess it contains a lot of the parts on the list.

Thats list for 120k service. Do check the seals for leakage and the Tensioner and idler pulleys for any bearing noise though.

if you are handy with the spanners then its a doddle bud, there are many write ups about it just do a search, remember to put the stopper bolt in the tentioner, dont put a hammer anywhere near the pulley its cast & will break!! get a puller bud.

Yes read something about using a bolt to release the tension, will the timing need to be adjusted when the new belt is fitted ? or will the variable valve timing take care of that. I mean when the new belt is tensioned up the TDC mark on the pulley can sometimes move. BTW how do you adjust the timing ? I was brought up with distributors and points !

valve timing is totally independant of valve timing. just make sure you line up the pulleys with the marks on the back plate and you will be allright, you dont need to touch the CAS.

not sure how you do it on these cars, ive never read up on it yet, but on other cars you can use a strobe light

oh and just to confirm what everyone else has said, DO NOT hit the pulley with a hammer it will break, then your in the sh*t

No I promise not to hit the pulley with a hammer, no matter how bad things get LOL. Just looked at the job in the service menwel and it says I need some sort of pusher syringe to set the auto tensioner. It also says that the tensioner has to be removed to fit the belt anyone done this job without removing the tensioner?

I never removed the tensioner first time I did one. That gauge I think it a push/pull gauge. So you can pull then tensioner onto the belt with a known force, then the tensioner does the rest. I guessed mine and pushed by hand.
