Too scary for me- I'm sticking with my contact lenses !

Actually, something you should consider is that the fix is only a point in time - if your eyes are deteriorating now then they will continue to do so. So, it's possible that it may need doing again in a few years !

Two good friends had it done a few years back.

Both were well chuffed with the results.

It hurt a little for a few days afterwards but I think that's less of a problem with the latest equipment.

As you know I'm a Sunderland lad and my folks live in Sunderland. My Dad had his eyes done their and he can see much better than before and his were really bad.

I had a friend who had his done, but he did wear 'milk bottles' LOL.

One eye had no problems but the second one they had to do twice.

Many people report "halos" around lights at night after having it done too.

I'm sticking with my contact lenses.

Like Andy said though, the laser only corrects for the current problem.

(It burns away the cornea to compensate for the lens).

If the lens changes, you're back to square one.

You'll probably need reading glasses later in life anyway too.

Hey, they're your eyes mate. You burn them if you want to LOL!

Just take the beer goggles off mate :D

I've considered it as I don't get on with the kind of contact lenses I need (they move about and blur) but my vision with glasses is superb so haven't bothered.

More cash fot the Z that way LOL

My mates wife had the Lasik type surgery last year, this is the newest type of surgery and you get your sight back almost immediatly but i think its a bit more expensive.

LASIK is usually used on patients with severe long sight or short sight. LASEK is used on patients with moderate or mild short sight.

I happen to know a group of neuro-opthalmologists (eye doctors, specialising in the nerves of the eye) and asked them their opinions on it.

They said that they don't like it as no-one has seen the long term damage the lasers do, in later life if you get a cateracht they say the thickness of the lens is weakened so the laser treatment makes correcting caterachts dangerous.

They told me a few more things which totally put me off as well about the procedure.

They say there's developments of actually stitching in a replacement lens instead which would then not suffer from degredation of sight in later life

a very close friend of mine has had this done, his bro is a neuro surgeon in london. hes very very happy with it and has 20/20 vision again

I was thinking about having it done too. BUT! A bloke in work said he had he's done £1200. for both and 3 years later he has to wear glasses again? He said they aint as bad as they were but thinks they will be in a few years time. He said he wont have it done again.

I have had it done about 5 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did, my eyesight started going fuzzy because of using the computer screens all day. I couldnt see very well at night either and it was dangerous driving, but afterwards everything became very clear again. It doesn't take long either, half an hour tops. I did go blind for a little while during the lasering though and that was scary ! It only hurts because of the clamps they put on your eyes to clamp them in place while they laser them. This was five years ago though and the whole thing is probably done much better now. I paid £1000 per eye as well, which has dropped dramatically now.

the debate goes on, im still not sure, will go and get my eyes tested at the weekend and see how how bad they are

Hi i am wozzer's missus.

I've been wearing contact lenses for 28!! years so for me the treatment was fantastic. I mean not wearing the lensen anymore is such a releave.

i've got astigmatism en still have a bit even after lasering.

You know that there are many risks in the treatment. the worst risk is becoming blind. I am sure that doesn't happen a lot but still wouldn't you consider wearing glasses first? See if you like them?

And also my eyes are not corrected 100% but i can see enough to pass my driving-test ( that is what the clinic aim for).

But overall i am very pleased.

if i only need glasses to read or use the computer then this will obviuosely be the cheapest option, i had my eyes tested about 4 years ago and they said i was slightly short sighted in one eye but to start wearing glasses now would only weaken the eye even more

maybe i just spend to much time on the laptop lol

Too be honest, wear the glasses and see how you go(bombom)...

your only a young pup..(27).....and lasering should be your "LAST" port of call... ;)

IMHO and the Misses... ;)

..

Wearing glasses does tend to weaken the eyes, contact lenses tend not to have the same effect. Firstly because the eye operates normally, ie the focusing muscles do not get as weak. Secondly the contact lens reduces the amount of oxygen that gets to the cornea which reduces the 'thickening' of it over time - this is another factor which causes change and deterioration.

Stella, I had it done 2 years ago and it has totally changed my life. I now have better than 20/20 vision, I don't have to worry about my lenses falling out at Karate or falling asleep on the sofa and trying to unglue my eye lids at 4 in the morning.

There is a downside in that to start with you will get Halo's at night around bright lights. This does get better though over time. There is a technology now called wavefront which reduces this, so if I were you, I would look into that.

How bad is your persription?

Andy

I wear the monthly contact lenses which allow more oxygen to your eye so then dont get sore and you can sleep in them. You only need to change them once a month but i normally give them a clean every couple of weeks. My wife wears these too but she only takes them out at the end of the month if she remembers :x:

I think you should have it done as youv'e forgot to spray your bonnet white.Ask a friend.
