When i start my 300zx it revs high sometimes at 2000 rpm then drops to 1500 rpm and sometimes gose right upto 2500 rpm then stays at 2000 rpm sometimes it stays high till i get to work which is 8 miles away but then when you come to start it again it is reving normal just under 1000 rpm

its normal to rev high from cold until the iac settles, it basically works like a thermostat once engine reaches temprature it will setlle down and ajust itself, if idle remains high once up to temp, it might be worth cleaning the throttle bodies out

ajusting the IAA scew may help settle the RPM @idle if at operating temp its stil to high it should idle between 750-900rpm

i have the same type of probelm and cleaning the throttle bodies was the advice i was given. will be doing it this weekend so i'll let everyone know how it goes (knowing my luck my engine will spontaneously combust!!).

Yep clean the throttle bodies and also the idle valve with carb cleaner..

which carb cleaner do you guys recomend?

The stuff in tins :D Any carb cleaner is basically the same stuff with a different label...

just cleaned my throttle bodies. really makes a difference. once it warmed up the revs dropped right down. :D took me about half an hour to do it.
