Found the Z's pretty reliable (it's a Nissan afterall). Probably only spent about the same to keep them on the road as my father in laws old Micra! Ball joint here brake pads/disc there, plugs, oil, tyres bulbs. Can't beat a Nissan. All agreed?

your right but it all depends on how much of a life the car has had! and how well its been serviced, turbos dont last forever though obviously! such a job is engine out, so cars get slated for that very reason, there no differant to say a skyline except most jobs are more simple in the fact you have more room and less cuts on your fingers.

So how long do turbo's last! I imported mine from Japan and I'm guessing their on original turbo's one on 200 000km and the other on 160 00km. What's the Nissan spec on turbo life?

re my first post tonight, edit 'they're on'

about 80k miles but with good oil changes some last 120k miles +

OK. Lucky I went to school when spelling and maths counted, thats 130000km-192000km. So obviously turbo life depends on how much you are using them! What are the turbo's doing when you are tootling about, when do they actually do some work, obviously this will relate to the lifespan of the turbos i.e a 192000km booting it is different to 192000km tootling. (the more I type 'tootling' the more I like the word 'tootling', 'tootling'). Yes am very, very drunk.

mines done 150000mls and no problems yet...... and Ive got a pug turbo diesel thats done 215000mls, used to have a rover vitesse 2.0l turbo over 150000mls on that and no sign of any turbo faults.

worked on lots of trucks with over 1/2 million miles with the original turbos.. and at the same time seen one or two pack in with less than 100000k...these were usually down to drivers not giving a shit and reving the engines from cold to build the air pressure up, then shutting the engine down without letting it idle, it was always the hashy drivers who had problems

look after the turbos treat them right, dont put too much pressure on them and change the oil regularly (quality oil)

and the turbos should last well over 150000mls more if your lucky

Nice one Ossian. Thats why I originally asked for the 'Nissan spec'. Knowing a little bit about Japanese engineering I'm sure they would match the turbo life expectancy to the car/engine life expectancy, after 200 000km, 15 years all bets canceled.

lol NO!! i have an n/a and every time it has been on my brothers ramp at his work is when i needed to fix it!! (exhaust (middle and rear sections blowing), starter motor, alternator, ignition coils and it's been to zedworld for a cambelt change). floods itself all the time (need to clean the throttle bodies). i love my car but it's not reliable. maybe i'm just unlucky :(

fair do's to my brother tho he never complains  :duffer: he removed my alternator on his birthday (dec 19th and v cold on our driveway) and fitted it when repaired 2 days later.

alex

ive never had a problem with mine; its regularly serviced, and only general wear and tear so far, bushes, vacuum leak etc etc., nothing major. just had it undersealed too.

With my NA you'd be right but i've had nothing but problems with the hicas, brakes and suspension on mine.

I spent 630 quid within the first two weeks on rear shocks and hicas arms with its MOT then recently another 520 to replace the front upper arms, tension rods and replace the hicas steering boss sensor.

The engine hasn't missed a beat althought it's a bit noisy sometimes and not others and had to replace two sensors but touch wood nothing major.

I've also got a mojor steering fluid leak somewhere which micky's going to try and find for me at zworx

I use it day to day as a runaround and haven't had any issues with it not running apart from when it's been off having the brakes and everything else done.

Well my NA is as reliable a car as you can get for something that is 16 years old.

In 3years I've replaced a radiator, starter motor, some tension rod bushes and a few standard consumables. It's kept outside and always starts on the button, runs well with no funny noises and gives me 23mpg. All this and a healthy 243bhp as well :D

I had a rover 620ti and the turbo bearing went at 120k miles, the impeller blades started hitting the turbo casing.
