do they exist :confused: trying to cure a ticking cam issue. want to illiminate the vvt springs (even tho they were replaced last year on a 60k service!)

 

other thing is a sticky lifter. there seems so many ways of trying to "unstick" them what are the pro's and cons of all please...

try a small cup of ATF bud, get engine up to temp,leave runnng for a short while, drain out and replace oil and filter. Sometimes helps quiten the lifters, only takes 1 to be sticky, and can be very noisy!

 

failing that you could disconnect the vvt leads one by one, if noise dissapears then you can pinpont to a vvt problem opposed to a lifter one.

thanks greg how "safe" is it to add atf to the oil? would it be better to do a flush with a cheap oil. if so how long to run it for before dropping it and filling with good oil?

its fine to add a small cup ful maybe the size of your nans teacup lol, leave in for 30mins make sure you empty it out though as before long it will eat engine seals. Its certainly fine iv done it a few times and it does work sometimes, depending oh now severe, i would do an oil change anyway but i would defiantly try the ATF take the revs up to around3-4k rpm sometimes it can clear up tapping within mins, so worth a go!not guaranteed but again worth a shot ;)

thanks Mr duff. shame i couldn't get you guys to listen to the engine. sometimes its worse then other bloody strange. its only noticeably louder at the moment due to the floor carpet being out of it!!

cup/cap makes no odds and how big is the cup? or how big is the cap? FFS :rofl: fookin PC :D

Had same problem with ticking lifters so got some fluid from harry halfords, called valve lifter fluid to quieten hydraulic lifters and It worked, Got tip from Jeff TT.

Took a few miles to work through but was effective. redo each oil change.
