a 500 will last ages, longer than you will have the bike i expect. I put a kx 250 on the road and i have had no problem what so ever( appart from keeping the front wheel on the floor!)

what about a for stroke? a nice yamy 426 with race can, brmbo brakes and a set of exell rimmed talon wheels(hmmmmm seexxy!)

oh by the way a 500 two stroker is a comleet and utter beast. I had a kx and virtualy had to sit on the handle bars in every gear on the road!!( not any quicker on the trak though, something to do with lack of traction!)

what bikes do you have?

Motocrosers are not at all suitable for the road they are very antisocial, far too loud and smokey and are usually riden by people using illegal motocross tyres....COOL biggrin.gif great idea...

The gearings gonna cause the problems if your doing lots of road miles as it will be revving its nuts off all the time.

Avoid riding at a constant high speed and use it for what it does best like thrashing it around local roads terrorising old people and setting car alarms off.

And dont forget quality 2 stroke oil, none of this lawnmower engine stuff.

A 500 is like the devil on two wheels, evil evil machines. Ive had big fast road bikes but most of my near death experiences have been whilst playin on crossers biggrin.gif

Roy, well well well - LOL.

Raced MX for 6 years, all sorts of bikes leading up to the daddy of um all.

If you want a complete arsehole of a machine on & off the road (I put one road legal about 5 years ago). Is a Maico alfa 1....500cc single two stroke. Comes std with a sachs g/box. Track = std set up - road = twin carb rostrum sisters' +3 teeth on rear sprocket, -1 tooth on front sprocket.

Piss anything (when you fit cut slicks)..

Use with Bell Ray MC1 blue molases oil/octain booster.

Then smile cos the only torque curve you need is under your nose smile.gif !

Wishing i hadn't flogged it...

I had a pukka XR500, only rode it once and it scared me so badly that I took it apart and used the engine for a 500cc single cylinder racer made with an LC350 frame ...

That was part of the problem actually, it had a higher seat than anything else I'd owned. It was back to the GPz1100 after that !

Thanx guys, right im going to get a CR500R, put some nice excel 17"rims on it with 330mm brembo floating disc, daylight MOT and Pirelli SuperCorsas.

Oh Happy Days!!!!!

wasn,t the alpa the dodyy one that kept breaking shock linkages because some dosy crout got his sums wrong.

I would love a twin shok 490 with ohlins at the rear. currently riding a huquvarna 400cr in vintage motorcross.

Hey Kris,

Have fun mate, the Maico GM500 was the weakest link lol. Then they went back to steel arms for the Alpha 1.

Roy good choice, my pocket wouldn't strech to 1 of those 15 years ago!

Too much fun being had hear! Off tobuy a field bike.

Ive had four 500 crossers, a YZ465, KTM500 and two CR500s. They are phenominal both on and off road, complete beasts. On a tight track a 250 would kick your as as the 500s are very very hard work but then you cant beat the massive chunk of power you get from a 500cc two stroke single smile.gif

Wheelies in any gear biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Mmmmmm, I will have another some day very soon wink.gif LOL
