hi guys

i have a uk car and when my ignition is OFF with no key in the barrel, i can turn on my headlights to dipped beam... there is no difference when ignition is on, does this mean i dont have dim-dip? i'm just a little confused thats all.

also should the dim-dip relay be next to the battery? if so i just have various holes filled with nissan gromets.

thanks

darren

Whats dim-dip?

With ignition off, you can have, sides, dipped and high beam on. Just like all other cars.

Dim dip is a system some cars have and it supplys the headlamps around 6 volts of power when the sidelights are on with the engine running. Dim dip only activates when the engine is running.

Dim dip is on my sunny van but not on my J spec Z

I know J specs dont have dim dip, but not sure on uk models.

i was told all uk models have it, but i don't seem to on mine (H) perhaps it was only on the latter ones

thanks mate I had a suspicion that this was the case... I have an early j reg uk car and I just fitted some zcentre hids and they seem to work with no problem at all.

UK cars do have dim-dip. Although the later cars may not - most new cars in the UK now no longer have dim-dip so is has been phased out over the years.

When you turn on the side lights, the head lights do come on at half brightness - not sure whether ingition makes a difference though. Lots of other manufacturers had the side lights built into the headlamps, so with side lights on, they looked like the headlamps were only half on; whereas the ZX has separate side lights in the bumper (indicators on UK spec and fogs on J-spec) so it appears obvious when you have "dim dip" as the half-bright headlights come on with side lights.

When I wired in the HID conversion to my UK spec car, the dim-dip no longer worked as there was not sufficient power to activate the balast pack.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Mine used to have dim dip until I put HID's in. My car was a standard when I bought it registered Nov 94
