balancing the crank is making changes to the weight of the counterweights of the crankshaft to compensate for the weights of the conn rods, pistons, etc. Not much point in doing it unless you have a full race Engine, as the crank is balanced in the factory for the rods and pistons on stock engine.

I'm thinking theoretical. these underdrive pulleys replace the harmonic resonator pulley and to get the best out of them they should be used on a fully balanced engine. has there ever been "any " case of fitting these pulleys to be the cause of engine failure due to imbalance.?

Not that i've heard of, as fitting a lightened flywheel which will give better throttle response and engine rev's as less weight for the engine to rotate under load, an underdrive or lightend pully would have a similer affect through weight saving, the only problems that could accure is the auxilleries that run off the pully ie water pump which would run slower with a smaller pully so could cause temp issues, but on the plus side the engine dosnt have to work so hard so easier the engine can rev

Mine has only just gone in, looking for my quote which i have lost.

Think it was about £400 to have it balanced and knife edged, but the balancing was of a complete engine not just the crank.

Guess that's not much help really.

that's the wrong figure bud, that was for the head work.

£265 ish for the crank work but that included knife edging oh and +vat
