Hi guys and girls,

Thats it i've finally had enough :headvswal , i can't be bothered with this car any more. My left hand turbo has begun to smoke, a few months ago i would have thought whoo hoo! i've got a good excuse to lift the engine but now i'm totally p155ed off the whole thing, for the 15 or so months i've had it its been of the road for about 4or5, its not the work thats bothered me its the money and now i'm skint  . Its a uk manual with a large 130k on the clock. What should i do know, sell it as it is? break it? or just take out my frustration with a hammer :smash: ????

please advise,

thanks

dave

sell it. a car is supposed to serve a purpose and be enjoyable. these cars are getting old "fact" and problems occur more and more often. you are in a financial rollacoster. once you get yourself sorted you may feel you want to get another, but for now your finances ,life etc are more important than a piece of metal.

all my opinion of course.

If it's done 130K on original tubs then it's done really well to last this long mate. Have you decatted recently?

This is the car i've seen on the A12, im sure? Dont break too many good zeds have seen their demise in this way such a waste, then a month later the owner beats himself up over doing it and wants the car back because circumstances change and they can now afford to fix it.....to late

mines just gone over 100k and its runnin fine at the moment, i know they can be a money pit when things go wrong but keep your chin up. i'd keep it for a bit longer and see what happens ya never know carl has a point.

i have a uk tt auto with 125k on the clocks and full history, last two owners were ladies so probs didnt give it too much death but probs didnt let it warm up or cool down properly either so am expectin them to smoke when i fit my de-cats, nothin against lady drivers in btw infact my gf is a time served mechanic and is very clued up with things like that, her first car was an escort RS turbo! just the average woman or even man for that matter wouldnt have a clue when it comes to these things

Thanks for all your opinions guys, i'm still not sure on what to do but what i am sure on is that i do want a zed. I also want a bike and i know can't have every thing. i'm going to leave it for a bit and see how i feel in a few weeks. It is me you've seen on the A12 Carl, i only live in Pettits Lane, it upsets me when i see you, yours is a much nicer model!

again thanks guys

I had one of these!!! a series 2 black with a hybrid, it was fantastic, i was only 19 and the insurance was huge. It had to go though because i couldn't afford the insurance over in Germany and the squddie i sold it to smashed it up rolling it in a field, the tw@t!!!

I would say, hold on to it for a bit.

So the turbos are smoking, so what? I have seen a lot of Zeds with smoking tubs. people seem to be able to drive them like this for a while.

Keep it for a bit and see how you feel. You may find your situation changes and that you can afford to put new, bigger tubs in...

i cheered my self up today, i went for a spin after an oil change and there seems to be no sign of oil burning at the moment, so i cleaned it inside and out made it look nice and shiny and have decided to keep it. Still not forgeting about the turbos, anyone got any??? Might as well get my self ready for the inevitable......

I wouldnt go as far as to say that, but thanks anyway, i've just got a couple of mods , wheels, LED rear lights and vented nose panel thats all, which any zed can have except its white but colour is isignificant to me as long as its a zed, i had a red one before my present one, i quite like them in red and only got a white one because it came along and i knew it was a good car from a fellow member but its not been without its problems but thats the price i have to pay for owning a 15 year old performance car, they break we fix 'em :)

just take the complement carl

some of the traders on here will proberbly able to help too

Don't touch em. Too many people have had recons from them and the seals go very quickly after install. Essex Turbo, Turbo Technics and there is another one in Lancs. About 1 in 3 turbos from above fail shortly after re install and they all insist that it is down to oil contamination durring fitting.

The best of the lot in my opinion for recons and upgrades is Turbo Dynamics. They are the UK autherised Garret dealer and use new cartridges for their hybrids and remachine the seal housings on refurbs and install a Garrett aftermarket bearing seal. This way the failure rate is vastly reduced.
