done this kind of thing before haven't you :p

No mate I can honestly say this is my first time and I dont think I have done a bad job of it so far :smash: :smash:

Never understand why people remove the plenum when pulling the engine WTF you on :smash:  :)

like you say its not rocket science but your better off saying that when you have stripped and rebuilt an engine! iv seen someone who pays someone else to rebuild an engine, cant beat DIY more satisfaction.

What's the pros and cons leaving gearbox on the engine? I have got to get the engine out of mine for the 3rd time lol, but both previous times have split and removed gearbox first.

Who else lifts out engine with gearbox attached?

leave box in PITA when reinstalling as a pair :)

too all those worried about any alignment issues of which ive never experienced in the five times ive removed a zed engine, paint tippex around the edge of the x member fixing nut.when the nut is removed it will leave a white ring behind making relocation much easier.

as above TBH if your taking yor engine out, im sure the work is far more important than aligment issues left afterwards LOL

what exactly are you saving leaving box and engine bolted together,,none.... especially when you have to split it anyway when out , its a piece of cake to get the ring off bolts off around bell housing in situ so can'tsee the point of lowering subframe/disconnecting steering/ and having a heavy lump swingin abart especially if its off the plenum a lot of stress. lol but I guess each to their own.

I payed £50 for alignment and im a tight fooker, lol

I didnt need to touch my sub-frame to take my engine out so im find this part of the tread a bit confusing guys. I know some people leave the plemium on but this being my first time I just want to see where all the bolts where plus it made it easier to get to the rear 2 bolts that hold the engine to the box. Also im fitting new injectors so it was coming off any way. From start to finish it as taken me 8 hours to take my engine out, now im not sure how this fairs with factory time but i think its not to shabby. Now im going to ask if there is really any need for us in the uk to have this oil cooler pipe in the gear box seeing as the jap imports dont as im thinking of taking it off or by-passing so its not running down the car to the rear. Information on this would be greatly appreciated. I think along with doing this gearbox mod I will also be taking all mt aircon out ie pipes and every thing plus my rear steer and all the pipe work, Should be done by xmas lol

:slap: SHELL CAN YOU PLEASE LOG OFF YOUR NAME FROM THE PC BABE SO THAT ITS NOT AUTOMATICLY LOGGING YOU IN. :slap:

The reply thread sould read from me guys, P***ing girlfriends always leave there stuff behind and never log them selfs off :headvswal :headvswal

If you leave the gearbox on, you gott bring the engine forward to bring it off the gearbox shaft. But in doing this the sump hits the subframe. Hence you gotta drop it out the way.

Dropping the box means just lifting the engine out without any subframe problems.

Ill be ripping all the aircon piping out the engine bay, that will help get a hand in for one of the top gearbox bolts when its back in.
