UK TT MANUAL. when i have been on a drive and leave the car parked when i go back to the car and touch the gear knob it feels quite warm. The knob is alloy so i guess it is conducting the heat up from the hot gearbox fluid that is kept cool when the car is moving but cant release this heat when stationary. Is this anything to worry about? should the gearbox fluid be getting that hot? would a transmission fluid change solve this (dont know when it was last done as only bought the car last year)?

You sure its not just the sun heating the car up and thats whats doing it.

For the heat to travel all along the linkage from the gearbox and up to the gear knob, it would have to be fooooooooooking hot.

It does get pretty hot down there, the exhausts pass either side of the gearbox and heat up the tunnel.

It will be the zorsts mate, they both pass directly under the bottom of the shifter. There is a heatshield, maybe your missing it? Mine gets warm too as its a solid ally ball and the heat gets tranferred up to it. Dont think it will be your gearbox or fluid as it is in front of the shifter not below it.

Oh yes zee gearknob can get hot from a good ragging in the hot weather. I have an alloy nob (ooer!) that keeps my hand warm in the winter.
